This will cover most steps on removing the interior door handle on the 95-2000 old body style trucks and SUVs. Broken door release handles on the inside are a common problem with these models I have learned
This covers the models with manual windows and lock it will be different if you have the yuppie things like power windows and locks
1) take off the trim peice that is right where the outside mirror mounts by gently pulling on it till it comes off the triangle looking piece.

2) next I took off the armrest by unscrewing the two screws and lifting it out while sliding it back

3) after that I took off the trim surrounding the door handle by gently prying the clips and wedging a screwdriver in place after each clip to keep the them from going back in while I did the others (4 total)

4) I remover the window crank next by forcing the retaining clip out with a screwdriver and had a rag covering the other end to keep it from flying away

5) after all those things wre removed you can go ahead and take off the door panel. I had a tough time with one of the clips and ended up cracking the panel

6) now remove the door handle by drilling out the rivet on the bottom of the handle and sliding the handle forward and disconnecting the rods . I chose not to drill out the rivet completely because I was planning on using a self tapping screw to re-install the handle.

Installation is the reverse of removal .
Heres is a picture of the self tapper I used

The part I used was 15708049 which is for the rear left door of the yukons tahoe and suburban but is the exact same thing as the front.
