As most of you know, I sold my hoe and removed all my equipment from it and it's currently collecting dust in my garage.

My wife and 7 week old daughter will be leaving for Iowa to visit family for about a week, so I need a project to take up my free time.

I had an idea of hooking everything up for a "garage system."

So, I took some scrap mdf and made a real quick box with one side open. I mounted my Pioneer 940 in it and my Bostons. I was going to just run the speakers off of the HU power, but last night I decided to try to amp them with my Arc 4150. And since I'm amping the components, I might as well run my Arc 1500 and hood up my JL 12w6v2's. My garage is gonna bump...and piss off the neighbors:D .

Anyway, in order to power everything I was simply going to hook everything up to a car battery and simply use a charger every so often to keep it happy, but there's got to be a better way.
Is there an AC to DC converter I can get? How do shops power their boards?

you need a DC power supply, which is basically a AC to DC converter. You'll need one that will supply enough amperage, some of the higher current ones will cost you though. Google 100A dc power supply.

gonna cost me is an understatement. I guess a regular car battery is gonna have to work.

A car battery with a trickle charger will work just fine.

That's what I'll probably end up doing. Wal-Mart battery = $40 and my existing trickle charger.

there's no way I'll spend $3g's for a dc power supply.

Take a single wire Delco alternator mounted to a board and run it off of an old 110 volt ac fan motor. You could direct drive the alt or belt it. We had one at the shop that we use to "pop over" dead forklifts. Way cheaper

Mauro,
Where've you been man...haven't seen you here in a while. I wanna see that huge beast your driving now in PERSON:D .

I'm just west of the Jahova's Witness church, in the Castle Court development.

It was a fun little project to build, but man, I can't wait to get it back in an actual FSC, and there's no way in hell it's going in my wife's hoe or the Honda I'm driving for the time being.

BTW, it's too loud. When you crank it it rattles the garage door so bad it's hard to actually hear the music:D
It really lacks in the mid response though since there is no back to the box, but it's good enough to have on when I'm messing around in the garage. I can't really turn it up past 5 or 6 (gains at min.) or the bass resonates too much and I don't want to piss of my neighbors (or wake up my daughter).

School's been kickin my butt lately, but its winding down for the semester so I have more time now :D

I know what you mean about the rattling, whenever I'm working on my system at my dad's shop (which is made out of aluminum) it rattles the hell out of the place! I'm not too familiar with the Jehova's Witness church, gimme some other places I might recognize...:D:D
