i finally got rid of my sony crap subs & amp....

i'm wanting to get one single 12" and get it as effecient as possible. i want good clean powerful bass at low to mid volumes. dont listen to it real loud, and want a somewhat small box.

subs i was looking at....

ed k12
Infinity Kappa Perfect
Alpine Type R
Kicker Comp VR
JL W3

no idea on amp... i guess i should pick a sub first, then pick an amp to match it....

i also need some suggestions on what type of box to build. it's going in the back of my K5, and dont want it to take up too much room.
do you think this would sound good??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32823&item=3093493502&rd=1

i'm on a real tight budget, and want to get the most for my money. i dont really want to spend a whole lot more than $100 for the sub, and $200 for the amp. got any experiance/ suggestions? keep in mind..... i dont want to enter any spl competitions..... i just want more bass than my 6x9's will allow. just want a good clean sounding system.

i have a top of the line JVC HU from 1999, 4 Kicker impulse 2 way tweeters, and 2 Blaupunkt 3 way 6x9's on a small amp.

the order I'd put them in is as follows:

1. e12k
2. e12k
3. e12k
4. e12k
5. e12k

heard alot of good stuff about the e12k..... they are a little more than a wanted to spend..... but, i'd still consider if they perform better than all the others.

how much power does the e12k like? what kinda amp would you suggest to push it? how big of a box does it like?

Recommended Power Range : 350-650 watts
Rec. Box Sizes : Sealed (.6-1.2cF), Vented (1.2 - 2.0cF)

They are in the middle of redesigned that line, but they have some of the flat cone ones still available. They are B-stock, and they are selling them for $115 shipped. It's refurbished but still has a 3-year warranty from ED. Keep an eye out on here, they come and go. http://www.audiohole.com/storecatalog.asp?userid=2

JBL 600.1 would be a good choice and can be found cheap.

Why isnt Image Dynamics IDQ12 not listed? Since you want a high quality sub with great sound characteristics.....you forgot the best one!

Ditto on the JBL 600 its a great amp at a low price. Also, always check on Ebay for Arc Audio amps...several people have gotten some great deals on those amps. And they will pump out some sh!t, like this one on Ebay (good price too!)
Arc Audio 1500 DR (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18796&item=3093286600&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)

i think i've narrowed it down to either

Image Dynamics IDQ12 4ohm DVC
or
Infinity Kappa Perfect 4ohm DVC
or
Elemental Designs e12k 4ohm DVC

and, i want to get the JBL 300.1 amp and run it at 2ohms.

whatdya think?
i think i can get the infinity cheaper than the IDQ, even though it's a $350 speaker.

I would still go with the Image Dynamics sub. It might be a few $$ more, but well worth it. You will not be sorry. They rock!
