I have a 91 GMC Extended Cab with a V-8 and automatic. When i put it in gear their is a thunk, thinking it's a bad u-joint I went to pull the driveshaft, after removing the nuts on the rear assembly what do I do? The rear shaft doesn't move, I banged on it a little and it is either froze or the snap rings need to be removed first. help. ALAN
P.S. How do you know if the carrier bearing is bad?
Spray it w/ some WD-40 and hit it w/ a rubber mallet. It should come right off w/ the bolts out. Also "push" the driveshaft forward a little, that will relieve some pressure.

I got it off about an hour after I posted, Iused 3-1 oil and a rubber mallet.
Do you know if the rear shaft just slides out or is their a retaining ring, bolt ect.?
How do you get the front shaft out? Does it slid forward once the rear shaft is out.
This was easier from me to do when their was one shaft and I was always under a car.
Thanks for the input, I need all I can get.
ALAN
The 2 piece drive shaft has no "retainer" bolts. If you pull it apart far enough it will fall apart. You can just pull-out the drive shaft from the trans., it will slide right out.
