get a red top optima they do the best in dual setups, theres a shop that sells pans and kits to make the setup very easy, I'll try to find the site that sells them.
you will probably want to upgrade your alternator too

Yeah, An alternator upgrade might be the thing to do first. i've always thought dual batteries would be the way to go - but in reality, the second battery is just another load on an already taxed alternator.
Running with two batts is certainly benificial because you can run one down and still have a full charge to start the truck. A higher putput alt. would most likley solve your dimming problem

for the second battery in a system I would get a optima yellow top. It is a deep cycle battery and is made to be discharged completely like you will do with a seconde battery.
I would get an alternator first. a second battery is only another thing that the alternator must charge. It really only helps after the car is turned off. I also doubt that the battery would be much less either. Once you have a yellow top $160 an islolator $100, a battery tray $40 wiring $30 it would have been cheaper to get a 200 amp alternator for $250. I am doing an electrical overhaul right now. I have put in a 200 amp alt, a second battery, and a 3 farad cap. The item that by far did the most was the alternator. Remember the alternator is the only thing that creates current, everything else just suppliments it as needed.

What kind of alternator was that? I was quoted like $320 for a 200 amp Mean Green.

powermasters alternator. It is a great alt. I bought it for 200 amps the proof of performance sheet shows it actually doing 245 with 135 at idle.
