Let's try again in the right forum...How 'bout a rear swaybar on a slammed truck?

Stupid me...Anyhow...

I'm wanting to upgrade the swaybars on my truck. I want a larger front and a rear bar. I have 8" of drop on the back of my truck and everywhere I look they say the rear bars are only good for up to 4" of drop. What's up with that? Why won't they work with more than that? I've never heard of anyone with a dually or a Suburban with 6 or 8" out back having problems with their factory bar, so why can't an aftermarket bar work?

Im no expert but I would think that it would have to do with were the axle is in relation to the frame being close to each other??? Dont quote me!

I've never looked at how a rear bar is mounted, so I don't know. Guess I'll have to crawl under one in the mall parking lot and check it out.

Now, what kind of excuse do I give the rent-a-cop when he ride up on his bike asking what I'm doing?

I have a hellwig on the rear of my truck and it is lowered 6" in the rear, it really reduced body roll , I don't know the size of the front swaybar on a reg 1500, but my ss camewith a 1.25" and what I did was upgrade the bushings and the links to polyurethane, and you feel a big difference you might want to try that first.

Poly bushings were definately in the equation for me. Does anyone know the stock diameter of the front bar on a regular 1/2-ton? Is it the same 1.25" of the SS? What's the diameter of a 3/4-ton bar?

I know on '73-'87s that a 3/4 ton front bar is thicker than all the aftermarket front bars you can buy, so when I do my '84, I'm going 3/4-ton.

I may just get me a Hellwig rear bar and see if it can work with my 8" drop. It's worth a try.

Soooo, if I wanted to upgrade my sway bars then I should use one from a 3/4 ton?? I may be going to bag it sometime in the next year or so, but if I don't then I will be upgrading the sway bars. Also is this the 3/4 ton only front or s there a rear too?

BLAH!!! Phooey on you!! :D Actually, since my truck has been in the body shop since June, no, I haven't gotten any. My chances of getting one have been reduced since my truck is now sitting in my garage and no longer my daily driver. I bought an '87 Caprice and limo'ed that whole thing. Tint laws only apply to '88 and newer vehicles in Texas. hehehe :wasted:

Anyhow, for your truck you should get a 3/4 ton bar for the front like I said. It's a larger diameter than any of the aftermarket bars I've seen. I don't know if the 3/4 ton had a rear bar, but I do know that the duallies do. So you might look for one of those.

Haven't looked into that. I know that LMC sells them for around $120.

A used anti swaybar sells anywhere between $25.00 and $100.00, some junk yards think they have gold, they look up what the dealer sells it for, and try to get half or better, for the part, sometimes your better off buying new.
