I got a flowmaster super 40,single outlet with a turn down installed but it wasnt as loud as expected. Its on a 4.8 v8 vortec. It does sound good though. Its the exact sound I was going for with the exception of how loud it is but I was thinking will installing a High flow catalyic converter help it get louder?I seen a couple on ebay. One was catco and the other magnaflow.

It'll get louder, give it a few weeks. Flowmasters don't really "break in", but the carbon buildup on the baffles and such changes the sound characteristics some, and I think the heat does something to the metal to make it more reflective....Not sure...
You're going to need two hi flow cats, I'm not sure if the ones Ebay sells are OBD II compatible, but it's worth a shot

Maybe it is how you routed the tailpipe that affects the sound you hear in the truck.
Here is a clip of my Flowmaster 40 (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/00gmc/00gmc_flowmaster40.wav) I think you saw the pic in the other thread already.
This was a laptop on the driveway near the rear bumper.

Joe -- Sorry if I missed your last post, but is yours a "SUPER Flowmaster 40 Series"? The Super's just came out a couple months ago, and are suppose to be better than the Flowmaster 40 series original and delta series. Just wondering.

the supers in the new black casing instead of the traditional stainless.

Flowmasters are aluminized, not stainless. Although they recently started offering their Delta Flow 40 and 50 series mufflers in stainless

so the exhaust system has 2 Cat converters? and I need to get the obd II compatible? Thanks
Also is installing the cats something a muffler shop has to do or is it a bolt in?
I found an auction for magnaflow universal High flow cat converters that are obd II compatible.Heres the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33629&item=7909630932&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
Also is there o2 sensors on either or both of the stock ones?
If I buy 2 of these will it make my exhaust significanltly(sp)louder? My truck is a 2000 with 97000 miles so I'm sure the stock converters arent in the best of shape.

Newer stock cat's flow pretty good. I don't think you'll get too much of an increase in sound. I think headers would be a better option, some people say headers make the exhaust louder.

yea, forgot about headers, they would increase sound as well as performace and gas milage.
