I have the IVA-D300 screen in my truck and I have to push the button to open/close it because the shifter doesnt clear it when in park by about .25 of an inch. What has everyone done to solve this? I know there is billet shifters out there that are shorter, but that would look retarded i think without any other billet stuff in my interior. Has anyone had their stock shifter bent a little?

It's pretty tough to bend without it breaking. A friend of mine with a 95 s-10 blazer was having this same problem, so he cut the shifter short and screwed on a new end he found at pep boys. looks pretty good, but I wouldnt recommend it LOL

Ya Luke Ive been pulling it back, but itd be nice to have it auto open/close with my ignition. How hard is it to remove the shifter? If I could get it out I could probably bend it just a bit to clear.

Code3- How do you like that deck? I've been thinking of ditching the clarion and getting that one. Only thing holding me back is lack of reviews on it.

Most of the in dash video units have an option to stay open. I just use that all the time. The alpines just go through into the setup section and select "Manual Close Screen" and your good to go.
Just invest in a good alarm system, and nobody will mess with it. NATSAT's Cell Secure has cellular notification on it, so you'll never be out of range with your truck's security system.

Only problem with heating the shifter is melting the plastic on the outside.

thats why you heat it just enough before you start melting the plastic.

Highly doubt you will got the plastic cool enough to not melt but the metal shaft hot enough to bend - you know there is a metal shaft inside right?

NBS chevy shifters aren't plastic.

natesiy, I think he's aware of that, but he didn't word it right.

I think what he meant to say is that he doubts you'll be able to get the metal shifter hot enough to bend, without melting the plastic covering.
Code3Response, I ran into this problem doing installs for friends. I remember seeing a post somewhere (not sure which forum), but there was a company/car audio shop (I think on the East coast) selling bent shifters in exchange for yours. I looked and looked, but couldn't find it.

yes i do know there is metal inside which is why you dont just hold the heat on it, but have it on a medium temp and heat all around the shifter.

If you really want to get crazy with the dash mods, you can move your headunit about 1 inch over to the passenger side to clear the shifter. sounds easy, but it's TONS of work to refinish the dash panel to look stock again.
