Super simple. Press/knock-out the pin the the arm pivots on. You need to hit/press it out through the top of the column piece. If you hit/pound it out I suggest you get someone to hold the column piece so you don't jolt/break it. Once the pin is out, slowly remove the arm, there is a spring in there that may come out...not a big deal if it does, just be ready for it. Install the new one in the reverse order.

:banghead: I've been trying to replace my shifter with a billet shifter, but I can't seem to budge the screw on the bottom. Am I going about it the wrong way? or am I just a big p... wussy?

Screw? It's a pin. Try it like I describe above, use a little c-clamp type press or hold the column piece and pound it from the bottom out of the top.

I tried knocking the piss outta the pin in the 98 and no go before. Gonna use the C clamp and a small chisel since I have a chrome arm to put in.

I looked on top and didn't see a head on it, looked like a pin.

Like I said, it's a screw in my '99 Suburban. The replacement arm doesn't go all the way down to the pivot point. It attaches at the torque screw. I'm not trying to say you're wrong, I think I'm just misunderstanding your instructions. I tried unscrewing the torque screw, but it doesn't budge. :weld:

You never said '99 Sub. :looking:

What does'nt budge? the screw or the arm? The screws are tough, because they have loc-tite on it. the arm should pull out like you would shifting gears.

Yeah, that's my mistake. I didn't mention what year I was. So the answer to my original question is yes, I am a big p...wussy. I was just afraid to break it, that's all. I'll give it another try tonight. Thanks for your patience and help!! :aniteef:

ckta, dude, you need to take your knowledge and profit from it. either go to work for GM parts headquarters or just make up a website, www.asktheassclown.com. $1 to ask GM truck questions. The opening page could have your ass sitting behind a crystal ball, hahaha. "Hmm, I need some help, oh I know! I'll Ask the Assclown!" Hahaha. Anyhoo, thanks for being one of our resident experts.

FYI I looked again and there is a torx head bolt but that' goes from where the rubber cover goes. The arm I have needs to have the pin removed at the pivot mount. I'm guessing I'll have to use the C clamp since this is the pin I hammered the piss out of.

Do you have this kind? #446?

If so, you have to take out the pin, but you have to hit the BOTTOM to get it out of the TOP. Put the shifter in OD to make it easier to grab the pin out.

Okay coo. Yeah I know you hit it from the bottom I was just worried when I tried a few months ago to break anything in the shift assembly. I'll use the C clamp this weekend and take pics.

Yeah, I had my dad hold the column piece "still" while I beat the sh*t out of mine on the '94. The next time I did it I used a small C-clamp and shallow socket.
