we just got an 02 escalade, and i thinkthe pervious owner was a smoker, we did not realize it at first, but after driving a while with the windows closed, my eyes start to burn, and u can smell the odor pretty bad. is there a way to get rid of this smell? or is it not worth the hasle since we picked the truck up today and we have 7 days no hassle return policy at the dealership. if the smell is easy to remove, id like to do that, since this truck has everything we wanted and was at a great price.
thankyou

I cant remember for sure but we had a tercel that someone really smoked a lot in, and I think my aunt what she did was put like a bucket filled with ammonia inside and let it sit with the windows up for like a half hour or so, then went in and scrubbed everything down with a citrus cleaner and shampooed all the fabric.

Besides the Fabreeze and a good cleaning you can pour some baking soda in plastic contaners and leave them side inside the truck each night and during the day when you are at work.

Many people overlook the headliner :read:

Take a damp cotton towel and spray some Simple Green on it. Lightly rub the headliner with it.

Follow it up with some febreeze

You might try "odor out" . I use that in my truck. It's just a spray. You might also want to change the cabin air filter. It's located under the glove box.

i routinly stick a few sheets in my vent ducts just to keep evrything clean smellin. i'm not a smoker so i smell it even if some1 hasnt smoked in there car for awhile. it's odd tho, i'm the only non smoker out of my whole family and all my friends...

so its possible to remove the odor? its a very slight odor, but its noticable and gets annoying. were going to take it to the dealership and have them shampoo the carpet and the roof, well see how much that helps

i just ordered this stuff, its got a 100% guarantee to remove the smoke odor, 30 day money back gurantee, so im gonna give it a try, hopefully its gonna do the trick, the truck is still getting detailed again by the dealership tomorow.

well i dont ever beleive anything is 100%, hell on day 32 or somthin your gna notice that smell again, only way i ever found was to use febreeze on a regular basis, and if you can keep the windows cracked as much as possible. with you oder being so slight as you say, i bet you could get away with a fresher upper about every 3 or so months and after awhile wont notice anything at all.

find an automotive detail shop with an ozone generator and have them let it run in the truck for 8-10 hours this WILL remove the smoke. May take two treatments...I own a detail shop and offer this service and trust me...it does work.

:word: ya beat me to it......i use one when i detail cars for Enterprise....their biggest concern is smoke smell. when im done vacuuming and wiping down the inside, i start the car, turn the AC on recirculate and turn on the machine.i generally only leave it for 3-4 hours and it works wonders...if its real bad it takes a few times though

The dryer sheet thing works.

QVC sells a product called XO, its a spray liquid. It does work! and the smell does not come back, I used it in my truck that belonged to a smoker. It's made by the Fuller brush company.

yeah don't buy a used rental car...hehe :D :whacko:

i don't do that to my other customers cars...just the rentals, and only if the've been smoked in(not every time)...it takes less time to kill the smell that way...because as crc said it can take 8-10 hrs otherwise.
