wassup, have a question about a lift and tire's versus my transmission i have a 4.3 v6 01 sierra and my question was will it mess with the transmission at all..... and or just liftin the front of the truck level with rear with 285/75-16's would it work???? but i guess my most concern is the transmission.....

it will be fine. I ran 285s on my truck for a while before i lifted it and now i run 35s and my tranny is holding up well (knock on wood). Fitting 285s with only a front lvling kit probably wont work. My GF has a 3 inch fabtech with 285s mounted on 16x8 inch rims and she rubs pretty good just driving on the street. Maybe if you stayed with stock rims. Ihave a 4x4 that is why i cleared 285s stock.

I would think you and your transmission would be happier with lower gears in the diff.

I have a 01 gmc sierra 1500 regulae cab and I ran 285-75-16 with 2inch coil spring spacers with no rubs.

After you get the larger tires you are talking about, if you plan on getting a bigger lift or larger tires in the near future. I would say wait untill you get the larger lift to regear so you dont have to pay 2 times to regear, just once.
Now if your planning on it being a long time till you lift or you never will, regear now. It will be for the best.

i personally think you are crazy running anything bigger than a 33" tire with a V6 motor unless you have 4.56 gears or higher.

I ran 33's with a 9" lift on a 2wd with the 4.3 V6. Stock gears too. It wasn't as bad as you'd think. It obviously had no pulling power, but acceleration was ok. With the stock 3.42 gearing I was getting 12 mpg.

wow. and i thought my 5.3 with the factory 3.73 gears was horrible. i wouldve hated driving your truck and needing to merge into traffic at a quick pace. i have one word for you. death wish. lol.

When I was 16, i didn't have $500 to spend on gears. I put about 35,000 miles on the truck like that, and the tranny was fine. 4.3s don't put out enough power to hurt the 4L60Es. Acceleration was decent, considering it had 33s with a V6. I could still spin the tires if I wanted to.
Now I have 4.88s with my 36s... a much better combo. :D

ok, i now know really what i'm lookin for a friend of mini just swung by and he had a new Z with the front end leveling kit and the wheels were 16's with i belive he said 285's i think but dont hold me to it but he said the tire's was equivalant to 33's and that is the look i want to go with....
i guess what i'm sayin is i love the real tall look but i want something that will look good now and a year later that is everyday purpusable. it's just when i layed my last truck out it became a hassle and it's just not what i want this tyme.... but maybe again in the future.....

285s is a skinny 33" tire.. something like 32.9x11 to be exact. He's only sitting 2" taller in the front with that leveling kit. You would be taller if you had 6" of lift. Go with 4" spindles and a 3" body with wide 33's.

285 is a wimpy ass tire............. get at least a 305 if you want a 33" tire. or better yet, install a 7" lift kit and a 3" body and throw a set of 36" tires on there.

36's will rub with 10" of lift. Even 36x12.50s
