I notice that there arnt alot of floor jacks that can lift my truck up to high. Im buying one for mainly to add bodylift/ford keys/rotate tires. Does it really matter wat one i get? I realize for the bodylift im going to just have to use a big block of wood to help lift the body since the jack wont go that high. Right now sears has a 2-1/4 ton craftsman floorjack and 2 jack stands for only 40$. Would that be good enough for me?

Wish i could afford one like that, but when it comes to money i cant afford pretty much any jack over 50$. So i guess looking for anything that can get the job done even if it requires blocks of wood.

Michellin 3.5 ton at SAM'S CLUB for $60. i think it goes up 23" or so
Sam's also has Goodyear Racing 6 ton jackstands for $25 a pair. they are cheesy chrome, but their cheap, and very sturdy.

My jack is a Mack I got at Wal-Mart for $40-50 (can't remember). It is 2.5 tons and lifts up to 21" It seems to do the job, even with the 36"s I can lift by the frame and get the front end off the ground, not by much though.

Ditto, about a year ago I purchased Sear's lightweight alum 3-ton jack and love it. It is so much easier to manuever, position and rises quickly. Even with a sale price it was a bit expensive but worth every penny. :head:

No offense, but to me safety is #1. I wouldn't cheap out on what is holding your truck from coming crashing down on you. If you can't afford a good one wait until you can IMO.

Truck popped outta gear when I was under it Tues night and send my to the ol' home away from home (mishap central) ER. I had the e-brake on, it was up on ramps, in 4Hi, and in Park.
I was dragged on my creeper from my garage out into the driveway... from there I was dragged on my back down the driveway into the street. Truck crashed into the neighbors mailbox too.
Hitman is a member here too....just goes to show $hit happens. Simple wheel chock could have prevented.
Yep, ALWAYS block the wheels and use jackstands :read: :read:

I have the same jack... very nice for the money. I really don't recall how high it can lift though. I'm extremely happy with it though! Definately consider it.

Have the Sam's club jack as well. Comes with an extended saddle for lifting trucks and such. Nice, really like it. Heavy though weighs close to 100 lbs.

ya definatly use heavy duty stands and jacks. i bought some stands and a jack from autozone. best they had at the time but if the floor isnt level it wil twist the crap outta the jack and stand and till fall off!
i had it fall off when i was geting ready to put my drop blocks on my old S10. luckely i wasnt under it at that time!
my dads got one of those big jacks. those things are very nice! heavy duty like a MOFO!!!!!!!!! my dad bought it used at a garage sale for 50bucks. only thing wrong is it leaks alittle when under a realy hard load, like my dads HUGE motor home.LOL and the handle was broke and welded back together. tho i will never see how they broke it.LOL weve had it for 15 years now still works great! but if you realy wanna lift the beast up in the air and have the room and about 150 pound of air pressure a air lift is killer! that thing will lift anything about 5ft in the air! but its only the front or back of the vehicle tho. i wish we had a full lift! hell i can just about lay my front bumper on the ground.LOL and stand under the rear :D i cannt even lift up the front fully or my tips will smash into the ground!
downfall is its the size of a gocart and storing it sucks!
dont skip out on safety we still put a stand under the jacks arm even tho it does have a pin thats suposed to hold all the weight.
my neigbor that lives behind our shop was killed from his car landing on his chest because of a failed jack seal. thats all that holds your car up is a little rubber oring.... **** happens dont play with your life.
i sometimes wont mess with a jack stand for little things but if your under the vehicle and its very low or could crush you or your leg best to use a good stand! check stuff will work fine for taking a tire off but i wouldnt get under the ride with it tho!
alls it takes is one bad seal in the jack, or one bad weld on the stand. alls it takes is one thing to go wrong to either crush your leg/arm/ or even worse and kill you. expect the worst! you can never be to safe when it comes against you like 150-200pounds against a what 1-2 or plus ton vehicle.... um i would bet on you holding it up.
