I'm not a Chevy truck owner at the moment but I plan to be soon if I can find what I'm looking for. Basically what I had in mind was mid to late 90s Cheyenne 1500 or 2500 with a V8/5 speed/4wd. As of right now it's proving to be pretty hard to find...All of the 1500s I find have manual transmissions, but they have V6s and most are 2wd. All of the 2500s I find have V8s, but automatics. Is the V8/manual/4wd combo just a tough one to find all over, or is it particularly scarce in my area? I figured that it would be easy to find in the base model work trucks, but so far it hasn't been. Ideally I'd like to find a 5.7L, but I'd settle for a 5.0L if the price was right and it was a nice truck. Of course there's always the possibility of a swap. How difficult would it be to swap a small block into a full size/manual/4wd that came with a 4.3L? Obviously the trans and engine will bolt up, but what about the motor mounts etc...? Are the transmissions/t-cases mated to the 4.3L engines different (weaker?) than those mated to V8s?
Thanks,
Matthew

Welcome to the site, and good luck on your truck search.
You might wanna post your question in performance forum, you'll get more responses.
Welcome! What part of Jersey are you from? As far as the swap, do a search on here alot of info, but in a nut shell to to the 4.3 to V* swap is real easy. All you need is the motor, injectors and chip and I think you may need the V8 motor mounts and the right tailshaft on the trans if you use a 2wd trans in a 4wd truck.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys...For those of you from Jersey also I'm originally from Hamilton township (the one in Mercer County), but now I go to school up north in Caldwell so I'm living in West Orange at the moment. My first truck was a '77 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, so I used to do a lot of 4 wheeling in the Pinelands around Wharton State Forest. I haven't had a 4x4 since then. I'm going to finish school pretty soon so I'm looking to pick up a truck that I'll put to good use (Hunting, Fishing, 4 wheeling, and oh yea, hauling stuff for fixing up a house hopefully). Actually my girlfriend is from out in Sussex county, which isn't far from the Poconos. I'm looking forward to hitting some trails out there...for those of you who think Jersey is all oil refineries and malls you gotta check out the Pines in the south and the mountains in the northwest. There's some good 4 wheeling to be had here. I'd love to hear from other guys who 4 wheel in and around Jersey so send me a PM
Later,
Matthew
