Ok guys here is the deal. I am going to go with a new setup completely in my new truck (either a 99 Tahoe or a 2000-2001 Tahoe) and I really need some help figuring out what to do. I want to go with 2-3 12’s with a large amp (over 1000 watt) new components up front, new rear speakers in the back, and a 4 channel amp to push all of that. The subs are going to be in a ported box and all other speakers will be in the factory locations. I am thinking about going with the following and would like any suggestions you can give me:
2 L5 Kicker 12’s – 200 each
Kicker 1200.1 - 550
Kicker 350.4 - 240
Kicker K6.5 components - 150
Kicker K 6.5 coaxils. - 80
I am open to any option, but I really need to stay in the 1500-1800 price range because that is what I can get the kicker stuff for all through a dealer. (Actually a little less) I want the system to be painfully loud, while still staying very clean and being a SQL setup. I don’t want just all-nasty bass, but I do want the system to throw down. Thanks for any and all suggestions

Jesus crist on those Treo prices. I am either going to go with JL Audio XR series components or the MB Q's because for the same level or each. (XR vs. PC) they are like $15 more for the MB's so that's not too bad. Subs I am still thinking L5s ported will pound.

So far these are the parts I am looking at going with...I will more then likely go with all the same brand if I do one or the other. Like if I go kicker amps then I will go kicker subs etc...The Kicker setup with either set of door speakers is going to be about $400 less then the JL Setup or the Rockford system
Sub Amps
JL Audio 1000/1
RF 1001bd Power
Kicker 1200.1
Component Amps
JL Audio 300/4
RF 400.4 Power
Kicker 350.4
Front Components
JL Audio XR650’s
MB Quartz PC 216’s
Back Speakers
JL Audio TR’s
MB Quartz Discus
Subs (all 12’s)
JL Audio 12w-3v2
Rockford Fosgate T1’s
Kicker L5’s

Dont do the fosgate subs they suck really bad and w3s wont get nearly as loud as L5s
Exalted512
01-21-2005, 01:51 PM
Sub Amps
Kicker 1200.1
Component Amps
Kicker 350.4
Front Components
neither
Back Speakers
neither
Subs (all 12’s)
Kicker L5’s

Hey exalted do you really thing the Kicker is that good of a product because that is really what I am leaning towards. Y do you not suggest those door speakers? Do you have any recommendations cause the front and rears would run about 380-400 so anything in that price range would be awesome man.

and the L5s will get blown out of the water by any DA, Adire, or RE comparable sub.

Hey Demon what Diamond setup would you run for subs then? I have been told the DA's are SQ not SPL subs man. ALso the Brahmas aren't the same class as the subs I am talking. I want to spend under 200 per sub.
PS
Kicker Amps and subs = 1100
JL Amps and subs = 1466
Rockford Amps and Subs = 1497
for front and rear
JL door speakers = 358
MB Quartz door speakers = 398

For what you're wanting I'd just go Kicker. It'll sound good and won't cost near as much as a JL setup (since you're wanting to do everything the same brand) and RF sucks IMO.
If i was you though, I think i would go with some different subs, maybe try out some Adires or something that no one else has.
But those L5's you used to have definately sounded good and will sound even better when u get a good ported box, so that kicker setup definately won't sound bad.
Oh, and if you decide to go all JL i've got some XR650CSi i'll sell you for cheap

I think it will give it a cleaner install for the most part

Id love to have some Brahmas or something, but I want to get something I KNOW sounds good. Cause I thought Adire, RE, or Diamond

Yea I had no problems with the SQ of those L5's but I know they need a bigger box and should beat down

Thats not even funny. We will get those things put in your truck this weekend.

Other than "cleaner install" why are you wanting to brand match everything?
Here's the deal, most companies start by specializing in one area of audio (i.e. they start making subs), then they start branching out into other areas of car audio. Most of the time (not all, but most), the product that they branch out to just doesn't have what it takes, but because their original product was soo good, people buy it anyway.
Let's take RF for example. They started making some really good amps (and subs). Then they branched out to components, then headunits, etc. Their headunits suck, and their components leave a lot to be desired. Then they started selling at BB and it's all history from there. (Kicker has actually a similar scenario as RF and we'll see what happens when they start at CC).
Alpine is similar - Great headunits, good to mediocre everything else (except for the F1 stuff).
Anyway, the point is that it's not BAD to have components from different companies in your system.

I personally want to have a nice looking setup in the back of my tahoe. I plan to mount the amps to the top of the box in an amp rack and would rather have the same subs in there as the amps are if I go with one of the 3 names from my list.

treo tsi 12's are around $140-150 each at retail price. i would have to double check now, some of their prices have came down. and their new cxt 15 is 2G's, a whole G more than last years csx. the tsx 12 used to be $250, but could be $20-50 less this year.
2 tsx 12's (dual 4 ohm, all coils paralleled and mono to 1 ohm) in a ported powered by a ssx 750.1 (both treo) = pounding. about $1100 for subs and amp at last years prices.

honestly, with car audio, people are going to care less about what the system looks like then what it sounds like:read: good systems aren't for looks...but for quality and sound. leave the looks to the exterior ****:read:we're obviously not going to convince you. so get what you what...cuz in the end, you're the only one that really matters when it cones to your system :D

becareful how you mount the amp to the box. i just read a warning from some company (can't remember, maybe us amps) "do not mount amplifier to box. it would last longer mounted to your bumper". you can get away with it, i have seen amps run for years and years on a box, but it is a bad environment for them for sure.

man that's a good thought as well. Well I really don't know what I am going to do but there are always options. I want to run components that I am familiar with because I have gone with "smaller companies" and been greatly let down by them. That is the reason for wanting to go with "name brand" companies.

Just my .02...If you're considering Diamond, pretty much everything they make is nice. I'm running 2 sets of HEX 6.5" components off an alpine MRV-540, and 2 M6 12's off the Diamond 1200.1, sounds awesome! Diamond makes the M6 and M3's in components also, a bit cheaper then the hex series. The M6's 6.5" i've heard and they sound great also, as do the M3 subs. Anyways, hope you get your system set up man! gl

I am interested in those Diamonds. What subs would you recommend on a Kicker 1200.1 amp and then for components those M6's would be sweet!

I would listen to Larry (95stroked1500). He is a great person and the guy really knows his chit! He has helped me and countless others on this forum on audio questions. He is one of only 4 people I trust blindly about car audio on here. If it werent for the fact that I already have a system, I would definately contact him about what to buy because I know he has some serious equipment for sale at cheap prices. Send him a PM and let him know what you are looking for and at what budget you are at.

L5 12s will not be painfully loud, no matter what. If you want something loud, go with any of the larger subs, from either adire, re, treo, or Digital Designs. I have actually been playing around with some crossfire xt2 15s in my daily driver and they get real loud also. The new MTX thunder line 7500, 8500, and 9500 subs are really stout too, you should check those out. We have installed many at our shop, and the demo van has 8 of the 7515s in a wall in it :)
BTW, I am an authorized dealer for MTX, Crossfire, Lightning Audio, JVC, Pioneer, and US Amps. Also get anything kicker and clarion, and the lower brands also. If you are willing to drive an hour or so I will beat the crap out of those first prices you posted :D
