my dad has an '03 2500HD base model (yeah, the one that came with the am/fm radio). for christmas last year, i bought him a replacement stock am/fm/tape/cd headunit that came out of a higher model '03 2500HD. the replacement headunit works great (had to have it reprogrammed with the vin# of my dad's truck by the dealer though), but i am running into one interesting thing. the volume of the stereo will not go very high. the replacement stereo is not labeled as a bose, so i initially figured that it wouldn't have needed a factory amp. was i wrong? i went to the local chevy dealership, and they couldn't tell me anything (morons in the parts department). if someone could help me figure this out, i would be eternally grateful : ) thanks,
wally
Owners of some 2003-04 Chevrolet and GMC full size trucks and utilities may comment that after the radio has been reprogrammed or replaced, the volume is not as loud at the same volume setting as before.
TIP: This applies only to vehicles with RPO UQ7 without RPO Y91.
A new Audio Calibration part number 10364319 was released to enhance low end volume control resolution. This calibration does not change the upper end of the radio volume control, and the volume will get as loud as the old calibration. But the low end volume control has been changed so that each click of the volume control raises the actual volume at a slower rate than the previous radio calibration.
This is normal and no repairs should be made.

so, knowin that this is normal, what is the best way to install an amp inline? my dad won't want to spend anything more than is absoulutely necessary, so he will just want an amp; no new speakers or anything else... thanks,
wally

either a 4ch amp with high level inputs or any amp and a couple line level converters
