The wife is getting her new 2005 Yukon and wants better sound quality. So I was thinking about giving DLS a try (at least the speakers cause I know the amps rock), but I can also get a great deal on the CDT HD62 set. I was thinking of the DLS UR6 comps. The CDTs are definately cheaper and have a great reputation, as do DLS, Might do the DLS CA40 amp bridged to run these. Thoughts...suggestions....opinions. I dont plan on doing this until a few months, after my April bonus from work.

i havent heard the DLS so I can't comment on it. But the HD is such a neutral, non-fatigueing set that's easy to listen to. I got an HD set for a girl I dated for awhile and she absolutely loves it. That laid back, yet still detailed tweet is good for people(not trying to stick my foot in my mouth) that want better sound but don't quite know what they want.

I'm sure the DLS is along those same lines to from what I've read.

dls' iridiums are amazing. i dont know how their lower line sounds, a buddy of mine does SQ comps and uses DLS, they are the best for imaging and have the most natural sound IMO

Yeah the off axis response on the DLS is what makes them so great. You can use them a lot of positions in the vehicle. But seeing as how my wife's ride will not even be close to competition status, and everything installed in stock localle, I am assuming the CDTs will also produce great results. I think the main deciding factor will be whatever's cheapest, but I am itching to actually try some new gear in her truck. I have already used CDT comp sets and DLS Ultimate amps in my own vehicle before. I am also thinking of getting a new line of sub for her truck, maybe Adire, Treo, Crystal, or Memphis...nothing big, just a single 10" for some depth in frequency range. I want to do some of my own "real life testing" because there is so much out there as far as good quality brands.

Lets see here...$500 shipped (DLS iridiums) vs $300 shipped (HD62s), hmm
That enough of a difference to buy a second amp (DLS CA21). I just dont know yet, and prolly wont until the day I order them. I just hope my wife doesnt change her mind and want to get rid of the Yukon like she did with the Pathfinder cause I am tired of trying to plan a damn upgrade in audio. But I think she will stick the the Yuke.

Ive heard from many people that the DLS Iridiums dont sound good unless they are installed perfectly.. versus the CDT's work good in stock location.. I have heard the DLS and they sound amazing but i dont know how good they would sound in stock locaton..

i dig the HDs. get em and use the left over $200 to deaden the doors or something.

I had always heard that DLS had great off axis response, so install would be easier to get imaging down. I know Belmont has the HDs, maybe he will chime in and give his opinion on the matter.

hes not talking about the iridiums though. hes talking about the ur6s which are a good deal cheaper.
CDTs are DLS both have great reputations and excellent bang for the buck. im sure the DLS' would be better, but they are more expensive. Belmont's idea about using the money saved for sound deadening sounds like a great idea.

Yeah but I dont think I can fit much more deadening in my truck. Mostly everything has dual layers (some spots even 3 layers!) plus one layer of Ensolite closed cell foam on top of that. I just like the idea of saving the $$$. I can dump it into a better amp though for sure, or even a second sub? I dont know just yet. Thanks for the input fellas!

you guys are much more experienced when it comes to stereo setups in our pickups, but i actually asked Don @ I.S. the same question. Basically, he confirmed what's already been said. He said the DLS speakers are good, but sound quality greatly depends on the imaging. He said the CDT speakers are much more forgiving and will work better (than the DLS's) when mounted in stock locations. I'm assuming he was referring to the cost effective line of DLS speakers and not the top of the line, however. CDT has my vote.

Thats exactly who my contact is...he said 3 bills shipped. Others I know got them for that much as well. He dropped DLS because he had issues with their equipment having a "made in Taiwan" sticker on the back of the boxes. And some other issues he had with them.
