Hello, I have about 150 bucks to spend on a hand socket wrench set. I dont want snap-on stuff because in my opinion that are WAY over priced. I basically want alot of tools that will last me for several years. I dont really plan on using them too much, so they arent going to be abused. Can yall recomend to me a set that has alot of sockets and is still pretty good quality? thanks

Craftsman is what i use if you can catch a decent special (they seem to run them every week) you can get a really good deal.

yea that seems about my best bet right now. I think i might just take a trip to sears and see what I can find. Which set do you have? Im trying to find one that mainly has just sockets not all the other allen wrenches and crap they try and add

How many pieces do you want? I just got a 102 piece husky set that includes 1/4" drive, 3/8" and 1/2" drive sockets and ratchets for a truck kit for $39.99 (on sale) at my local Walmart. I've seen they have 148 kits and 178 kits for $49.99 and $59.99 at Walmart on sale as well. Those have allens and screwdrivers on top of the socket set.

i want the 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 wrenches and about 1xx sockets the more the better. I already have pletn of screwdrivers and allen wrenches so thats why im not a big fan of the "200 piece kits" that have like 100 allen wrenches and such

micus what did ya get a 1/4 drive ratchet and 5 sockets for 170 ,ive got over 7k in scrap on,there ratchets are one of the best ,they have some decent wrenchs thinner than other makes ,which is handy at times, there swivel and standard flank sockets are also usually thinner and get into some sneaky places where others wont, other than that *uck scrap on ,trying to find a rep for a replacement is bull**** ,theres a sears on every corner walk in trade walk out from now on ill do sears

On another note, the city I live near just got the okay for a walmart. I was trying to find some fittings for my radiator. So I go into town to the local hardware store, and to no ones surprise its closed on a sunday at 4 pm. Opens at noon and closes at 4 what a way to do business. Thats why I like WalMart, and sears, there when you need them. Sorry just a little off centerLOL

i bought a complete Mastercraft 202 piece socket set (1/4,3/8,1/2) with wrenches for $180 four years ago. it was their professional line. I use them daily and I've only had a ratchet break (from severe abuse) and it was no problem to get it replaced. It was mainly sockets and wrenches not all the other chit but I think it was an exceptional deal considering it has a lifetime guarantee.

The Set ive got is only like a 100 (with 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets) piece but i only paid $70 for it and it was those cool laser etched sockets that are extremely easy to read.really handy when your under the truck or need to find the right size quickly.

stanley is owns mac tools or vice versa-either way if you buy from walmart, you can take it back...even if you don't buy from wal-mart you can take it back to walmart

The best part about Craftsman is the no BS warrantee. No doubt Sanp-on are better tools but try to find a snap-on rep on a saturday when you have truck guts all over the driveway.
Just about anyone is within a half hour of a Sears. As for the other store brands I haven't had as much luck. I had some tools from a true value store and when they went bad true value didn't handle that brand any more. Sears will always deal Craftsman.
Besides, AJ Foyt uses Craftsman what better endorsement do ou need.

yea actually the reason why i have 150 bucks to spend is that my folk bought my a 150 dollar husky set. I decided that wasnt a good idea either especially since there were only like 60 sockets. So they said I could buy a set I wanted for around 150. Ill probably go check out sears tommorow. I already did a little browsing on their website

I've got a Huskey set and I like it very well. I bought the set that came with a free toolbox. But my Father-in-laws a mechanic and he uses Craftsman and has never had a prolem getting anything replaced even when the tool was like 30 years old

Specialty tools....Cornwell, Snap-On. Everything else, Craftsman all the way. You can try and save a few bucks going with Home Depot brand, but is it worth it when it breaks and you don't have the reciept?

I'll agree that Snap-On tools are over priced, but for sockets I won't buy anything else. I've never broken one and with the flank drive system you'll never strip the head of a bolt, you will however snap the bolt which can be just as irritating. I don't own any Kobalt tools (sold at Lowe's) but they look like they're pretty decent quality and as has been mentioned before I believe Snap-On owns them also. Craftsman tools would be my second pick, but with the Sears/Kmart merger I wonder how long Sears and Kmart will be around (especially since kmart was almost belly up for a while). The whole thing is very reminiscent of the Montgomery Wards/Lechmere merger to me.
