Since nobody make a defroster vent for my 95 chevy. I thought what the h*ll, I will build mine own. So I went to Lowes and bought some aluminum and got after it. I"m going to take it down to the local radiator guy that does custom iron work on the side and get it welded up. Then I'm going to take it and get it powdercoated black and then polish the top of it to match my phantom grill and bumper grill. It will have a slight curve to it to match the vent hole and will sit flush down in there. Here's a pic of what I'm starting with. http://mercury.walagata.com/w/sprttrk/Custom_vent.jpg

Nice start. How are you going to go about attaching that to the dash so its nice and strong? I got tired of my dash moving on the passengers side a couple days ago so I stuffed a piece of rubber in between the bottom of the B pillar (one on the passengers side) and the dash and now it doesn't flop and there isn't any more pressure on the defroster vent mounts then there was to start with. Its a lot quieter to.

Its a lot quieter to. Well since I will be taking outmy dash and painting it. While I have it out I'm going to fiberglass a bracket on there. In the pic the black is the bracket and the pink is the dash. I will fiberglass both of them together, then I will put a flush mount screw (red) where the original screw was. The bracket will have a small nut (orange) welded to the bottom of it so when i set my vent (green) down in there, I can just put a small hex bolt (red) in there to hold the vent down. There will be 3 brackets where the original screws were, and the vent will be screwed to the bracket at all the places to.

Sounds like its gonna be 100 times stronger then the stock mounting system.

I am intrested in your results and maybe be your first customer for one?
I can do the fiberglassing and stuff. If it comes out right you might just have you a nice product.

oldred, when you said b pillar did you mean a pillar, IE the one in front of the door? my dash squeaks like crazy when its cold and I want to take care of it... thinking it might be what you described
