I am in the process of making an overhead console for my reg cab, and it seems like I can't stop making it too big. The shape is similar to stock overhead consoles. The highest part of it, where the ac controls usually are, is interfering with my rearview mirror. No matter how much of the console I shave off, I keep seeing it in my rearview. I was just wondering, where is the normal spot for the rearview mirrors, in terms of how close they are to the edge of the headliner? I measured mine and it was at an unusual 1-1/8" from the headliner. Is this normal? I wonder if I should try to move it down some, but I don't know how to remove the metal from the glass. Any ideas? The console is still in the mdf stage, so I can start over. Thanks

Well, anybody else? I am assuming that OBS reg cabs are normally like this.

in ks, you can have the mount as low as 6inches from the top of the glass. check your state laws and go that way.

something i suggest

intergrate the mirror into the console..

go to ebay and search for a 88-91 honda prelude rear view mirror, it mounted to the roof, you could take it and mount it to the console (maybe a inch drop down inside the console and mount it there with it coming out of the console, all you will see is the mirror and the arm going into the console)

I would say mine is at least 4 inches down. The problem I have is I never can get my compass/temp mirror aimed right so I can see straight out the back. The mirror mount needs to be lower but my old mirror worked perfect in that location. Who knows :dunno:

I had the same problem when I installed my O/H console. I was beginning to wonder how I was going to get the metal plate off, when the whole thing just fell off. Kind of lucked out on that one. I'm wondering if maybe waiting until a warm day might help it come off, but I think you may need a chemical to remove it.

I mounted mine probably 4" or so below the headliner. I wouldn't get too drastic, you only need to drop it a couple of inches to get the console out of your view.

Dude that is a good freakin idea!! That would be sick to have the mirror IN the console. Dang, now my plans are all messed up again but it's well worth it for a good idea. I will definately try that out, and if it goes bad, I at least know that the mirrors on our trucks can sit lower. I just need to find out about removing that metal piece. Thanks alot everyone!! :cheer:
