Hey i have been seaching through the forums and i been reading a lot on spindle lifts. Im not quit sure how they work can someone inform me. I no that a body kit separates the body or something and i dont want that. But the spindle lifts have the spindles for the front and the blocks for the back? that doesnt separate anything? im kinda confused on that part. Also i was reading on the 4in Rancho lift is that a 2wd lift? i cant find it anywhere online could someone direct me to a link for that. Also i dont really no that much on spindle lifts are they good for your truck? what long term effects do they have?

Spindles are the best method for lifting 2wd trucks. They keep the steering at stock angles, and your a arms/ball joints at stock angles, which is good.

Basically, a lifted spindle replaces the stock spindle on your truck. A lifted spindle is taller, and it pushes the hub/wheel assembly down (providing lift.) So a 3" spindle will have the opening for the hub 3" lower than stock.. which gives you 3" of lift. A 4" spindle will push the hub assembly down 4"... giving you 4" of lift. The spindle still attaches to your upper arm and lower arm and your tie rods at the stock locations.. the only thing that is different is the opening for the hub is lowered.

Here are some photos to explain better:

The first picture is a picture of a lifted spindle (on the left) and a stock spindle (on the right.) These are dodge spindles, but they are basically the same as GM lifted spindles. The black one on the left is the lifted spindle... notice how the hole is pushed down 4" further than the white (stock) spindle. The different placement of the hole for the hub/wheel assembly is what gives the truck lift. Now, also notice how the upper ball joint mount (top of spindles), the lower ball joint mount (bottom of spindles), and mount for the tie rod (right side of spindles)are in the same places on both spindles... this is why these are good for your truck.. they keep all of the stock angles.

Now here is a pic of the GM 4" lifted spindles... pretty similar to the Dodge spindles:

Do you have to run a certain size rim to use lift spindles?

I believe 4 5/8's backspacing is the most. Mabye not but its close. Cant run a stock rim.

Izzy, did you have to use a ball joint reducer on that springtech spindle? And did they get the spindle off ebay for like 279 plus shipping?

You should be able to run a 4 5/8 rim even if 4.5" is called for. I run weld mountain crushers that are 16x8 and 4 & 5/8's anyways.
