View Full Version : Suggest a differential for my buddy's 2wd
I've got a friend with a 91' C1500. He's wanting to put a lift on it and some 33"s. It's got an open diff right now, and he's thinking about an Eaton Posi. I personally have one, but I don't think it's so great off-road (especially in 2 wheel). What would you suggest as far as differentials for a 2wd truck driven mainly on road with good street manners but still capable in mud and for climbing?

what is with this..... everybody says this......... everbody thats not running one.
DETROIT is the only way to go, especially in a 2wd..... he's gonna be stuck all the time without a real locker. he's got to make up the fact that he doesnt have the front wheels spinning, so the detroit is the only way to go.
i drive mine daily with a detroit, and i wouldnt drive it any other way...... the myth that the detroit does not have good road manners is just that..... a myth..... the detroit was designed to be used on pavement. if i wasn't going to drive my truck on pavement, i wouldn't waste the money on the detroit, i'd just weld it, or run a spool.
bottom line..... get a detroit.
sounds real familiar.... theres this guy on pavemensucks.com with a 2wd dodge on 37's..... he wanted better traction.... someone told him not to get a locker.... so he got an auburn posi...... he took it out and HATED it.... it sucked offroad....... he brought it back within the first couple of weeks and got it swapped out for a detroit. he loves the detroit now.
That's good news. He was just afraid that it would be loud and obnoxious to drive it daily on a truck that is otherwise very smooth riding. I'll let him know what you said tomorrow. Thanks!
