I just can't see why everyone says these heads are junknad they should be avoided. Granted they are not for high RPM power, but they supposedly have great power from idle to 4000 rpm. These heads appear to me to have great potential. I mean don't you want high swirl?

the swirl does help atomize the air/fuel, but the reduction in cfm's it causes kills any hopes of making good power

I can think of one good application for them. And that is air boats. With a 5 ft prop you dont want to spin over 3500 rpm. Because at 3500 rpm with a 5 ft prop tip speed is about 625 mph. Your pushing supersonic speeds at the tips of that thing. As far as I know (not being an air boat expert) they run about a 4-6ft prop.
Now you are right. Swirl is very important. But you can do it better without losing all that flow. You can easily achieve alot of swirl by maximizing port bias and leaning the outside wall away from cylinder centerline. Know I wonder what focusing on port bias with a set swirports would do. That and a bowl blend is about the only thing you could do. How much would it help? Thats a good question and I dont have a good answer. But both of those can make dramatic increases in flow.
Swirl helps to give an even distribution in the cylinder. This can lead to more power because you wont have "dead" spots persay where there is little air fuel mixture.
