My SES light keeps comming on and throwing a random cylinder misfire code.

Sometimes it comes on while actually driving, but its ALWAYS comes on if i leave it in park just sitting for a minute or 2.

Whats could be causing it?

toolman...no backfiring, but ive heard "rotor and cap" from quite a few people now.

airdeano...its either 300 or 600 (whichever one is RCM, i cant remember which)

bsos...ill give that a try, thats what my engine shop recommended as well. I just want to make sure.

You know I had a random multiple misfire code on a vortec 4.3 I was working on. I replaced cap, rotor, and plug wires (a couple were bad). Well out of the box one of the new $100/set plug wires were bad. That took care of it for a while and then it returned. Come to find out 5 out of 6 were bad. The only good wire was an old one I re-used. Replaced them again and it ran great. Just a thought. Hope it helps

Do you have a timing light. Just hook it up to every plug wire down by the plug and rev up the engine or run it wherever it stumbles and watch for inconsistant firing. This is how I diagnosed mine. Works like a charm.

Let me know what you find. I am still getting my #6 misfire code and have replaced everything I can think of. Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Wires, Injection System, etc. My symptoms are the same as yours but only on #6 cylinder

ive been told that that can be caused by a sticking valve

OK how do I check for a sticking valve? How do I fix it too?
