What do you do to keep your engine bay clean

I was wondering what you guys did, I have been wiping it off with a rag everyday.

check out my pics on Webshots. I let it get dirty (having fun). Then I spray it down with water and spray simple green after it. I let that sit for a few minutes, then hose it off and dry it. Then I'll use 303 protectant to give a nice finish to the plastic and rubber pieces.

Ah new truck love. I use to do that too. But I got tired of getting on the ladder and cleaning. Once a month I do the old Simple Green trick. Works well The just let it dry. I use my air compresor to blow water out of most spots.

Yup! As long as you dont have anything polished under the hood use Simple Green on a cool motor, let it sit and hose off.

I just don't drive it and it doesn't get any dirtier than it already is! :D

This is one area of my truck that I seriously need to work on. A lot of crap under my hood has 197,000 miles worth of sh!t on it. I just need to get all new stuff! :eek:

I cleaned mine the other day with Armor All. I sprayed it on everything and whiped it off. Good as new.

That spray tire foam stuff works pretty good under the hood in a pinch. Cleans it up real well. The problem is that it attracts the dirt when you drive with it for a bit.

New stuff I tried the other day was Black Magic. It cleaned up well. But like all of the tire all tire cleaners they are dirt magnets

I agree, Armor All, No-Touch and all the "wet" looking plastic and rubber products will attract dirt like a hooker to a hundred dollar bill.

If you haven't heard of or checked out "303 Protectant", do it. It doesn't leave a glossy look, but it deepens the color (black looks really black), and gives a semi-gloss sheen to it. It also doesn't attract dirt anymore than the rest of the truck, so it won't dirty, grey, or look out of place. Plus it actually protects those parts (unlike Armor All and other silicone based products).

If you have any RV or Marine supply stores nearby, give them a call or go to http://www.303products.com/protectant.htm I just went there and they also list True Value as a national sales vendor.

Just wandering cause im gonna clean up the engine bay tomorow and i have that simple green stuff, was wandering you just hose down the whole engine? then spray everything down with simple green? do you try to avoid hosing down the electronic stuff?

I use CD2, but I think we're talking about the same thing. I get it at Autozone or Discount Auto Parts. They sell it in a cleaner/dressing kit, or just the dressing.

The result is beautiful.

opps I meant to say CD2 that is the same thing they sell it as a kit and it works wonders!

I've been using Scrubbin Bubbles for the last 15 years on the engine compartment in all my vehicles. It may be for bathrooms but I've never seen a better cleaner. Any spilled oil or grease hoses right off and it doesn't harm the plastic, rubber or paint. I think it's the same stuff that Gunk used to sell as "Foamy Brite".
