View Full Version : Are bullets really that loud?

I am ordering new mufflers on Monday and was almost deast set on bullets until today thinking they may be too loud. The exhaust is going to be thorley headers, high flow cats, magnaflow x pipe, then 2 mufflers.

Are bullets obnoxously(sp?) loud? Is there a lot of interior resonance? My friend has dual chambered flowmasters on his 04 and his exhaust is not all that loud to me.

So will the bullets wake up my neighbors if I start it at 3 in the morning or will they hear me 2 streets away in the neigborhood?

Thanks in advance.

I'm surprised the dodge man hasn't chimed in yet. To answer your question yes they will talk to you pretty good at start up and under acceleration but at idle and cruise they are fairly quiet, you know they are there but you can still have a conversation pretty easy. I am going to go with 18 inch case length bullets.

was putting the kid down for a nap:read::crazy:

but true, it barks nice at start up and acceleration, and noticeable at idle and cruise speed, but you still hear it. it gives a nice deep throaty grumble, and then when ya tap teh gas it gives a nice deep throaty bark that to me kinda reminds me of the muscle cars of the 60's to an extent.

believe, me you won't be dissapointed :D, and if it is to much for your taste, heck, your only out $45 compared to a $100 muffler. but i think you'll like it, but if you're worried, go w/ the 18" case.

I had bullets on my 98 Z-71. They are loud, but they dont sound like glasspacks. They are very deep and have a great tone. Sound very similar to flowmaster 40's, but louder, deeper, and cheaper. I am going with them on my 99 Tahoe and they are going to be awesome. Also very little interior resonance at all.

Remember, the tailpipe configuration alters how the muffler sounds, it may sound louder or quieter

Since you're gonna have cats, I say get the bullet. However, if you don't think it is loud enough and decide to ditch the cats later down the road (that is if emissions wouldn't be a problem where you live) then get a muffler and not a bullet b/c IMO it sounds HORRIBLE, but that is my taste. My .02

awesome man...that's the same setup I am going to run. Might want to get an X pipe so it doesn't pop too much as well.

Did you run a single bullet? And did you dump it before the axel or did you run it out the back?

True to an extent.

on the 18" bullet (1st one i ran) i did run a pipe near teh same stock location. but cut it off and ran it turned down before the axle, as i did w/ the 12" i put on next.

with the bullets do you need to do a new muffler back section ? because my muffler now is center in offset out, and it looks like the bullets are just straight through.

if someone could link me to something that has an almost stock fit, id appreciate it

most aftermarket mufflers, whether it be a buller, flowmaster, etc. is gonna be shorter then the stock muffler:read:

all they do is weld it on and then weld on an extension piece, if you are still planning to use the rear tailpipe section.

it is very easy to fix, and any shop should be able to do that, and if they don't know what to do-- walk away, get in your truck, and drive away as fast as you can:read:

sounds like a plan... they better not try and screw me.... since i have to go with more pipe anyway ... i may as well just go with a 12 incher

you guys are sure they dont sound like rice burner pipes ? cause thats what they look like

no, it gives a nice deep throaty bark. I love the sound.

to me, my 18" case magnaflow between about 1600-2100 rpm sounded like a ricer in the cab from the drone.
