these pics are to check out the equip. got a oddessy dry cell batt, 1200 cca for 5 sec. 2/0 pos and neg feeding the amp. had to use "strapping" because i was pinched for every fraction of an inch in highth. not a show install, and won't ever be seen. batt is mounted solid. 4 ga from the front of the car to the fuse in the rear (has a fuse up front too), only for charging current which won't see over 80 amps anyway. forgot my lap top at home, so i couldn't meter it. i'd guess about 140 on the TL and has great sound. subs are the tsx 12's. treo amp is on the highs (tsx 75.2), 2 sets of 6 1/2" helix components. one second level, one third level.

it shouldn't be that hard. Just cut the diameter to fit the 6 1/2's, build new rings, hot glue the rings where you want them, glass the rings in, and re-inforce the kick panels with fiberglass. I have heard that they aren't very strong... or strong looking and a lot of people do reinforce them with some glass. Sand & paint or carpet/vinyl.

glass does not stick to plastic in a quality manner. lots of sound deadener will do the trick. i've got a set in the gf's truck i modd'd for 6 1/2's and have about 1/4" worth of deadener on the underside.
here's a link for you.........

i use "plumbers goop", comes in a purple tube at hardware stores. when this stuff sets up, you will end up destroying stuff if you try to seperate them.
here's another option for attatching the grills. mount your mid, screwed down. if you do not have extra mounting holes, drill a couple. after the mid is in, put a couple holes in the standard grill, and lightly screw the grill through the unused holes in the mid. just enough to hold the grill on and not smash the screws through it. the plastic grill holding ring is not used in this process. on the 6 1/2, that ring looks tacky, because it overhangs the kick panel contours.

eh, you can make it work. Drill a couple holes in the plastic. Pshh... nice build though :D

yes, rough up with sand paper and drill holes. problem is, it works for a while. not permanent. i've seen some nasty interiors that were beautiful at first. a few years later the glass started seperating from the plastic and it looked like utter crap.
don't mind me, i'm a stickler for 100% stout, quality work. or else it bugs the heck out of me. even if i'm the only one that knows about it.

i'm the same way, some people call it OCD, i just call it being a perfectionist. nice install! :head:

I'll 2nd the fiberglass not sticking to plastic. It does stick fine at first when it sets up but the way that the two different pieces can flex at different rates will kill you. We tore up my friends door panel with 36grit on a DA then glassed over the top hoping it would hold, but it split off in weeks after opening/slamming the door over and over. Best bet is to use that liquid plastic goopy stuff and ABS plastic pieces to build up any plastic structure.

Hmm... I guess the stuff I have done has held up, but I have never tried it with speakers. I molded a screen in one of my friends trucks and was working on mine and I have built a couple of consoles. Everything is alright so far, but there hasn't been enough movement to jar it off then I suppose. Isn't there like a spray primer or something that helps fiberglass resin adhere to it? I thought I heard something like that somewhere come to think of it

If its stuff that won't flex you should be fine, my console is fiberglass to plastic in one small section and its held up fine... I dont think there is a spray primer or anything, its just a matter of using only the same materials, just like you don't want to stick fiberglass to metal. You're completely color changing your interior aren't you? How's the progress?

if i glass on kicks, i start from scratch. i'm redoing the ones in my truck. well......along with too many other projects i have going on. so they are on the torn down and to do list. originally, i made molds and made replica of the stock kicks out of fiberglass. then went from there to my own angles and speaker placement. now i'm putting my 8's in the doors along with a 6 1/2 component set. putting in a dyn esoteric tweet and mw140 ( ?, it's their 3", can't remember the exact sku #) in my kicks. unless i happen to like what they do on the dash.
