Water spots on windows

My grandparents (who owned the truck before me) lived in the boondocks of east texas and washed the truck with well water. :to: Now there are a whole lot of water spots on the window which shows up good b/c of the tint. How the heck do you get the :guns: water spots off? : Windex and Bon Ami glass cleaner aint cuttin it, so Im clueless here. Help!

i had the same problem with my back window and resorted to carefuly scraping with a razor blade. It was sick! Some are still there..its weird? Anyone else with a better idea?

I use vineger and water...it takes it right off, but click on the links below...lots of others have tricks too.

Try doing the vineger and water but never put a buffer on windows. You could leave micro scratches and when the sun hits the scratches it will reflect and blind you.

hey, thanks for all the replys so soon.:D I'll try the vinegar trick first thing in the morning, cuz im tired of staring through those :guns:waterspots (which are red, btw, truck came from the iron dirt of East texas) I'll let yall know how it goes.

ok, so whats the deal.... i went at my windows with windex, then Bon Ami, then water/vinegar, then straight vinegar, and razor blade, then sampled a scotch brite in an inconspicuous area (dont do that! it scratches like a mofo!) the spots are still there. Am i out of options, or am i just a dummy :dunce: and not doing it right?

It sounds like your glas is etched by the minerals. It's not unheard of, but not real common either. I don't believe that there is a way to fix it other than replacement.

you can always use acid:D BUT YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL. Rinse it off right away. You may want to have a mobile detailer in your area come out and take a look. Most of the time estimates are free (free estimates from me) and see if he does water spot removal from windows. The last thing you could probably do without having to replace the windows is use acid but have a professional do it for sure. Many detailers do not use acid for obvious reasons but it will take the spots off and if it is done right it will not hurt the paint.

if you can...early in the morning while the dew is still on the windows crank it up and turn on the wipers for one pass and take a picture from the inside with no flash...then let post it up...i would like to see what kind of boheamuth water spots you are dealing with.

That's the same problem I had. I tried everything including the razor (one of first thing I tried).. I came across this product on the web called spot-x. I followed the directions, except where it said buff it by hand. I tried it first than I figuerd that it was too much work. I got my power buffer and went to town on it. I figured it that didn't work I would just replace the glass so I had nothing to lose except $5.00 for the spot-x & the time I had to spend on it.
Needless to say it worked like a charm. It worked so good (no scratches) the side windows looked much, much (did I mention much) better than the front and rear windshields. I planned on doing the front and back, but week or so later the truck was stolen..

Sorry no pics guys, raining here since this afternoon. It was really weird too, cuz i was crusin around and noticed that there were no water spots on the windshield - only on the windows and ext cab glass.... looked for that spot-x stuff too, but they dont sell any down south (checked the website's distributer's list). Not much i can do for now i guess...:(

Well, I have heard that WD-40 will get them off. Squirt you some on a rag and try that. Dont let it sit on there, it might mess something up. If that doesent work, then I dont know what to tell you.

I'm sure if you ordered it, they would be more then happy to ship it to you...
