Going to change front breaks and dont have a heavy duty jack. I was just going to use my spare tire jack. Will that be strong enough to lift one side, put jackstand under... then raise other side and put jackstand under? Or should I just go buy a heavy duty jack? I just don't use that often.

Thanks,
Hawk

Go buy a good jack. It will make your life a lot easier. I tried using the factory spare tire jack to lift my Tahoe up to change a tire and it would't even lift it. :banghead: I doubt you will be able to lift the truck high enough to put jackstands under it with the spare tire jack.

You can use it to lift one side at a time w/ no problems....that's what they are made for.

At least get a jack stand under there while you are working on it. I would hate to see the factory jack fold up on you while you are working on the truck.

I carry a hydraulic bottle jack and some jack stands. The bottle jack fits in the toolbox and is easier to pump than the factory jack. It's also good for helping out other people; like when my Mom got a rock between the rotor and backing plate. The jackstands are because I don't trust a cheap jack that much. I also have a piece of 2x10 for when the dirt is too soft to hold up a jack. Also carry a Harbor Freight torque wrench for the lugs.

Belt AND suspenders, that's me.
