Does anyone know of a good way to obtain those stupid "special" tools that you need from time to time? I need to replace my power steering pump and can't get the pulley off because I need 2 special tools. One is a puller to get it off and the other is a sort of reverse puller (pusher?) to get it back on.

If you buy the puller the other "tool" comes with it. It's nothing more then a threaded rod basically.

Sometimes Snap-on or Mac tool salesmen have them...Just for grins, try autozone...

...or you can see if you can borrow the tool from your parts store. They often have free tool loans.

Harbor Freight has a set I use:

I have this set. It covers a bunch of applications and has worked well for me.

You can get a universal puller from sears and then get other bolts for different applications. Some parts stores will rent/loan tools as well and Lisle sells a lot of specialized tools as well.

My pump came with the installer with it. I made the dummy behind the counter go crazy when I took the pump in with the pulley still on it. It was tough but I got it iff the truck that way. Lee tools, Astro pneumatic, and several others make the tools to get them off and put them back on with.
