Hi,
I have a 1995 Suburban that I'm starting some work on. This looks like a good place to hang out as I go through this project.
I originally decided to work on my Sub as practice. My 'real' car is an AMG that I'm going to do some modding to this spring, so the Sub is 'experimental' as I develop my skills/tool-box. Rather mess up the Sub than the Merc :) However, now I find I'm really liking where the truck is headed, and I think I'm going to keep it for a long time and really make a 'nice' truck to drive and working on, and being around cars is just about the most fun I can have. I have definitely caught 'the bug'.
Anyways, I'm starting on some exhaust work, then general engine maintenance, then some interior stuff, and then some appearance mods (I tore off the side-skirts/steps/wheel-flares and exposed some rust).
I have almost no experience in automotive work, so I'm just taking it slow, with a little bit of trial-by-fire where it seems safe to do so (I did work on my 1983 Caprice Classic when I was a kid - changed oil, brakes, alternator, etc... - but I seem to have lost all of that after college when I started to have dealerships do all my work for me, so I'm trying to get that back.). Had it up on a jack the other night and was pretty intimidated. Mostly I just don't want to die. I have to admit I'm having a GREAT time just hanging out in the garage every night with a beer, reading through the Chilton's, and poking around in the engine-bay.
Any starter-tips are most welcome.
Thanks!
