These are instructions for the 700R4 & 4L60E servo swap. The servo is located on the passenger side about ½ way up the case. You do naot have to drop the tranny, or remove the pan. The pupose of this mod is to get quicker, more positive, firmer shifts. This should only take approximately 20 to 30 min.

1) To start, there is a plate covering the servo, remove this by using a 10mm socket.
2) Remove the retaining ring around the servo cover. Then with a pair of channel lock or vice grip type pliers, gently twist & pull the cover until you can see blue Teflon seal. Pull seal down enough to cut it. ( don’t worry, the new servo will have a new seal w/it. Check to make sure though!)
3) After removing the seal, remove the cover.
4) This next step can be done in two ways. Either remove the entire servo assembly or remove it in pieces. I recommend removeing the whole thing. It’s kinda snug, but can be done.
5) After removal, remove the e-clip holding the spring, the washer then spring.
6) Use either an expensive spring compressor or a $2 pair of c-clamps, clamp the cushion spring retainer and 2nd apply pistion together to remove the metel seal holding it together.
7) Once apart, the servo apply pin should pull through the servo assembly. (Some gentle coaxing w/a rubber mallet may be needed)
8) From here on out, simply replace the stock parts with the new ones & reassemble in reverse order of disassembly. Be sure to coat the new seals/rings with either trans fluid or vasoline.
9) One last thing, you should lightly sand the piston apply pin & the hole where the piston goes through with 400grit or lighter sandpaper on all the new parts until the pin moves freely, otherwise it may bind.

HAVE FUN & TAKE THE TIME TO DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!! :rocking::rocking: :rocking:

Hey there bubba, good quick article. Got any pics? What about part numbers for the Vette servo/ misc parts? Add those and it'd be top notch (not bashing, just offering constructive criticism).

So, you have to cut and remove the seal to get the cover off. If so, I guess that's why I couldn't get mine out.

The tranny is not that hard at all. I did the whole Transgo shift kit in my truck, not just the servo upgrade. It included dropping the pan and removing the valve plate along with many other things. Not hard to do. Just be careful and take you time. I'm sure you can handle it Izzy!!!:rocking:

The sirvo isn't hard at all. Just be carefull. Things my get a little messy and make sure you put it all back together correctly.

I already have a shift kit on my truck, would the vette servo still be helpful? Also, my truck is the 4.3L v6, would it still work?

I'm considering the vette servo too... Whats the gain? I already have HPP3 firm shifts and thats pretty cool.

The vette servos just firm up the 1-2 shift...

figured id follow up here. I did the mod. I had about 3 minor heart attacks during the install, but its done. First I couldnt get the apply pin out of one of the stock pistons. Had to take a hammer to it (it didnt just fall out). The next heart attack was when i put it all back together and the snap ring shot out on me the first time it shifted to second blowing trans fluid everywhere. The third heart attack was when i realized I didnt have overdrive, which ended up being because the 2-4 piston was in backwards (unclear instructions).

All in all very good mod to do for $18 and im very happy with it now thats its in correctly. Id recommend doing it to anyone, however give yourself some TIME. it can be done in a half hour but chances are its gonna take you a LOT longer than that. My problem was that i had to do it at a friends house within a time frame, so problems led to panic. --- dont let that happen. I could probably do it in a half hour now that ive done it once, but the first time it definitely took me a while.
