a prius....learn to like arab oil J/K practicaly all mods you do that help the engine burn more efficiently will increase fuel eff. Start with a 3.42 or higher rear end, be easy on it, and get a tonneau or camper shell.

It has 3.42 diffs with the 4.8 engine.

Covering the bed will help? I never heard this before, thanks.

For sure...you can even take the tail gate off and you should average a couple more MPG's. Snugtop makes some real nice covers if you want to spend a little $$$. Another route would be a custom tune desinged to squeeze some more MPG's from nelsons, PCMforless, waitforme, westers, zippy, ect. combined with cold air intake and exhaust. I would do the tailgate or bed cover first though. good luck

free flowing exhaust (magnaflow, flowmaster, and god forbid Bullets), cold air intake (k&n, AEM,etc.), a w4m tune

Get a sawzall...cut a big ass hole in the floor under your feet... and fred flintstone that bish around town!

J/k.

What do you consider to be good gas milage for a 4600lbs v-8 fullsize??

I get 15-17mpg around town and anywhere from 20-23mpg on the highway with the 5.3 and I am anything but light onthe throttle. I think that is pretty damn good for a truck.

Don't confuse the guy.

Taking your tailgate off alone will not increase your MPG. Even though you drop a little weight by removing the tailgate the adverse effects on the aerodynamics of the vehicle offset any gain you will see. You don't have to believe me but if you do a little research you will find in almost every case removing the tailgate will decrease your fuel economy.

If you take you tailgate off in the addition of a tonneau cover or camper shell you will see a MPG increase due to the more efficient aerodynamics contributed to the cover as well as weight loss by removing the tailgate.

Intake, exhaust, tune. A bedcover will give you a slight mileage gain, but it'd take 10 years of the gas saving to pay for the cost of the cover.

hmmmm...seems to be. You would think that the gate down would streamline things, but I have been wrong. Here is an interesting link. http://www.truckgadgets.com/fuel.htm
Although a one percent increase in drag prob. wont be seen on a daily basis, still odd. Seems those ford engineers do know what they are doing.

A full synthetic oil like Mobil 1 or AmsOil will help gas mileage also. Freeflowing exhaust would help maybe a little bit, and dont use things like A/C.
