I'm probably gonna need to do a little work on my front suspension soon ('01 2500HD crew cab 4x4). I've been looking at the GM torsion bar tools, and they're freakin' expensive.. $100 torsion bar tool (http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/otc7822a.html).

I know you can loan one out at the parts stores. But I don't like borrowing stuff, especially if I know I'll be using it again. I was wondering if you couldn't just buy a big C-clamp and modify it? Take the little hand turning bar off and weld a nut to the end of it along with a couple other little changes.

Has anybody done this or anything like it, or know another trick without spending a crapload of money on that tool.

Thanks

Really just rent the 2/3 jaw puller and be done with it. Or buy the 2/3 jaw puller if you dont like to borrow/rent things.

I've heard of too many horror stories when trying to use something else. If you don't want to spend the $100 I would just rent one even if you have to rent it again later.

Don't do the C-clamp thing. I was stupid enough to try it and bent the crap out of the C-clamp and almost hurt my self.
