Anyone ever use this stuff? I used it on my old truck and I liked it. I havent waxed my new Chevy yet but will be getting to it this week. I bought some Gold Class the other day. I'm not sure if you can layer Gold Class, can you?

Also, should you wax in the shade or sun? Thanks!

If Gold Class Liquid cant be layered im going to pick up some Eagle 1 Nano.

I used to use it on my flame red metallic GTA. It made the paint JUMP, made it soooo much deeper.

However, the stuff did'nt last through a wash or rainstorm. :(

Try not to wax in the sun.

Liquid glass is a good product. I prefer the Zaino line-up. It looks great, lasts and you can apply in the sun.

To the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as a liquid wax that will layer.

I waxed my truck two weeks ago starting with Mcguiars #7 Show Car Glaze followed by Gold Class paste. Was hoping to take pictures but after a day of hard work, it started raining literally 5 seconds after I finished applying tire shine to the last wheel. Typical.

What is the best wax that I can buy from Advanced Auto Parts?

Also, what do you guys use to apply the wax?

I buff with a microfiber cloth but I have always used those little yellow Meguiars sponge disks they sale to apply the wax. It seems that they are pretty abrasive though.

I feel ya. Wasn't even calling for rain until the next day and was very nice all day. Then out of nowhere... *queues clouds*

I don't use the foam disks at all. Last time around I used Mcguiars microfiber blocks. Was very pleased with them. Nothing but microfiber touches my finish these days.

I've used GC for years and really liked it. Recently tried a sample of Meg's new wax - NXT or something - and I think its even better! Buffs off much easier IMO.
Now I just gotta use up the rest of the GC.....

Gold Class is a bit different for "wax" product because Meguiar's touts it as a 2-in-one product. It has a pure polish (glaze with no cleaner) and wax to seal the paint.

Curious about layering: what goal are you trying to achieve with the process?

Your saying it doesn't matter how many coats you put on?

Uniform distribution across the entire truck, what else?

When talking about any wax that has cleaning ability, layering usually doesn't work with them all that well.

If a paint surface needs mild cleaning and the product does well with the first application, then a second application of cleaners is wasted effort. If the cleaning is already done and the look is satisfying to your eye, then why reclean? Using a cleaner wax as a 2nd layer does just that.

If the first step of a cleaner/wax looks good, then it can be topped/layered with another product that does no cleaning if you find one that enhances the look to your liking.

Uniform distribution across the entire truck, what else?

In regards to waxes and sealants with no cleaners, I want to ensure that I have uniform coverage in case I applied the first coat a bit too thin. I do no more than 2 coats in a session. I'll do this on premium polish and wax jobs.

Some people take layering to an extreme. They think that if one layer is good and two is better, then ten coats will be ten times better and last ten times longer.

I use the gold class paste, you can layer it as much as you want, great shine, but I hate that applicator pad it comes with. It is a little hard to get off, but once you do, it look snice.

Do you find any appreciable difference when you apply layers? How many layers do you apply? I'm asking out of sincere curiosity since it's not a product I layer and wouldn't have considered it one to layer due to its cleaning abilities.

Meguiar's has said that Gold Class has mild cleaners in it since it was new circa 1995. My test was when I hand waxed an entire vehicle with the product, then had to re-wax a few areas that had some blemishes I didn't quite get on the first coat. While re-working these areas did get rid of the blems, the shine was equal to the area around it than only had one application instead of the 2-3 it took to remove the blems.

The newest formula is supposed to be much easier to apply and remove. I have not used it in a few years, so I can't comment on that formula otherwise.

I wasn't actually aware that GC had cleaners in it or I wouldn't have used it. Anybody wanna buy half a tin? lol Just bought it to get me through the winter anyway. Picking up a tin of Pinnacle Soverign next Spring.

As far as ease of use for the GC Paste. I love it. Waxed the entire truck at once, let it dry, and then hand buffed it all off at once. No removal problems what so ever.

I dont believe that the GC wax is a true cleaner wax (I was just on the Meg's site). It may have very mild cleaning abilities as most waxes do but its certainly not marketed for such use.
They do have a "cleaner wax" product made specifically for that application.

I do think that a second app is nessesary in some spots to get an even coverage. After a waxing, I take notice in the evening when the dew starts to set - you can see exactly where you missed :D

Thier professional product line has a alot more choices and application specific products but may not be availible to everyone.

I always see spots that I missed. i'm hopeing changing over to a synthetic will alleviate that.

Instead of those cheap feeling yellow applicator pads, look for a set of MeguiresEven-coat applicators. It's essetially a little larger pad that's square, easier to hold, and has a Microfiber cover that resists scratching better.

I still two coat with Gold Class, just for a flawless finish...

Here's the hood after a clay bar, Meguires Fine-cut cleaner, then two coats of Gold Class.

It's funny that everyone else had it rain after detailing, I don't feel so alone... Started raining, then the humidity got so high I couldn't finish because the wax wouldn't dry.

I have to do a swirl remover routine on mine. I took it to a carwash once....once.....because I couldn't wash it by hand because of my collarbone and now I have a problem.Never again will I go to a carwash.

My Meguiar's rep had said that Gold Class has mild cleaners when it was new in around 1995.

Well, I was wrong. :sorry:

Looks as if I was going on old and possibly incorrect information. I spoke with Meguiar's Customer Care on the whole Gold Class cleaner issue. Today's phone rep said that any cleaning ability of the product is so minor that it will not remove any of the highly visible defects in a paint finish nor a previous coat of Gold Class wax. He said the newest formula is much more forgiving than what I had used years ago. He also assured me of the product's layerability.

Now it makes me want to revisit the product, especially since they're saying it is so much smoother to apply and remove.

as soon as the truck needs it I'm going to try out the new turtle wax ice to see how long it lasts...

Gold Class liquid is BY FAR the easiest on and off I have ever used and it really brings out the paint color. That is why I want to use it on my truck.

Props for the info about layering the Gold Class!

wax should never be hard to remove. The only time it's hard to remove is if you put too much on. waxes and polishes are supposed to be thin layers. The best way to accomplish this and not waste the product is to wet the applicator with detail spray or water first. This works with liquids and pastes. Keep the applicator wet the polish/wax glides on smoother and thinner. It'll wipe right off!

I noticed If I use the same applicator for too long it will get very moist and start beading water on the paint in very small random amounts. I find the wax goes on a lot thinner and takes a very long time to dry. I would think applying wax with a wet applicator would be like pissing in the wind. I've been wrong before.

I spent about 4 hours today washing, clay bar and 2 coats of Meguairs Gold Class liquid today and WOW! Shinin like a diamond:rsr:

It doesn't last long either. I like the way it looks but doesn't last long at all.:dunno:

I think we all should just "break down" and buy this: http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ZKIT-2&Category_Code=Zaino

Problems solved!

:

You just need to mist the applicator.....not wet it.
