I'm finally getting my truck shined up and the polished exhaust tips need help. They have the usual road grime (tar, etc). They used to be smooth and shiny. What can I do to get the grime off and then shine them to look new? Thanks.

If they are really bad, take some fine steel wool and some metal polish and scrub the grime off. This may scratch a little bit, but after that take a soft rag and re-polish them by buffing them out. The stuff we use at work is usually chrome and aluminum polishes (depending on if you have chrome or stainless steel tips). Hopefully they come out ok.

My tips are over 2 years old, their stainless steel. They have had gravel, mud, cow crap, tar, salt, etc... stuck to them. Some expected pitting, but they polish up good. I hate that you can see the the gravel rash to the bottom of the truck but it's inevitable.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have the big mother's power ball that I used for the 20's on the Envoy. I'll use that and try to post some before/after pics in a couple days. I also need to post some pics of the rebuild. I did a body off restore of my '04 2500hd. I wrecked it in a slow motion roll kinda bad and put all new sheet metal on it. The only things that weren't scratched were the front and rear bumpers, tailgate and frame and mechanical stuff. It looks and runs like a new truck now. Thanks again for the help!

Off topic! But I noticed a Bill Gatton sticker on your truck!! I was born a raised in Bristol, All my relatives still live there! Just kinda freaked me out for a minute, when I spotted that!
I clean my stainless steel tips with just a SOS pad, does pretty good, They get alot of abuse at the 45 degrees, and the 20's, kinda of sand blasted effect on one side!
