I got the cam used with only a couple thousand miles for $75 and am buying the other stuff like springs, 1.6 roller rockers, to make it like an LT4, then adding bigger TB, headers, underdrive pullies, and custom tuning the computer.Later I hope for a turbo set up on this engine :)
Here is a few more pics of my trans that I cleaned and painted and also my nasty frame which is getting sandblasted and painted also.http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q153/91blkstpsd/DSC00259.jpg

I pulled my truck out of the shop and pressure washed and degreased the frame and firewall almost ready to paint it now. Before that I have a portable sandblaster i will use on the frame. Does anyone know of a really good chassis gloss black?

ive herd you have to cut pat of the fram to fit the tl1 acc brackets in the truck is this true? nice lookin drive train you got there!! keep us posted! alos if you lookin for lt1 stuff TB ect try corvetteforum.com and thirdgen.org both places have a lot of lt1 stuff for sale! ive been a member at both for a while now some good peps might be able to find what your lookin for, if your still lookin!!

If you try and use the stock location of the AC, yes you have to cut the frame. But here is a pic I found of a bracket Im trying to locate that moves it up high where ours are originally. If I cant find it ill make one(my family owns a machine shop:)And thanks for the links ill look into that. While I have it this far apart im replacing all the front end bushings with red Energy Suspension ones and shaving some stuff on the firewall.

Here is a couple pics of some stuff I painted this weekend. I painted the ac compressor, altenator, sway bar and end links in a silver metallic. I think it is goin to look really nice when together. The paint I used is for wheels. I used it cause it is resistant to chemicals, brake dust, and other greases. Also got my BBK 52mm throttle body in and its just sitting on right now, have to get new gaskets for it.Lemme know how you guys think its coming.

I got them off ebay for like $110. The fit is ok I just had to trim down the center tubes so they would seat better. I love the look of them just hope I wont be able to hear alot of engine noise through them since they are thinner. They are huge on the inside, has plenty of room to clear the RRs.

wow dude that looks really nice. but i have one Q. On your old motor, it looks like you have the hose that goes from the intake and instead of it going to the radiator, it goes to the fender, i am confused on that one.

03-16-2007, 01:06 PM
Um, I have a small radiator in that fender. Na, jk its just twisted around out of the way cause I was about ready to take the radiator out.

Here it is! Installed roller rockers. Just a test fit to see if everything was going to clear. Now have to take it out and paint the firewall and finish up some suspension and sttering stuff. Also painted the new core support and inner fenders this weekend. What you think?

Thanks, Ok Ill give my secret away! lol
First wetsand your lenses with about 400 grit sandpaper. Then clean off the surface. Next get your paint ready.I mixed up my basecoat and then mixed up some clear separate. Add just a little basecoat to the clear and stir really good.( mix like 1:20or something, to desired tint) spray on evenly. Keep adding coats to the tint you want. Finally for that extra shine, wetsand the lens with 1000 grit and re-clear only. Not really that hard of a task. I just was playing around and figured it out and turned out nicely.

Quick question! Im starting to think on some wheels to get when this thing gets running. What is your opinion on what would look best. Its going to be be static dropped(5-7)for now then eventually bagged so keep that in mind.Wheels will be about 20"x8.5" up front and 20"x10.5Here are the choices:
1)Bonspeed Laguna (Polished and gloss black)
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q153/91blkstpsd/Laguna_brushed-1.jpg
2)Boyd Coddington Harm or Slayer

They are elimintating all emissions,VATS, MAF sensor, raising the rev limiter, lower fan turn on temp, setting gear ratio, and controling better shifts. I shold get it back either late this week or first of next. In the mean time Ill be piecing some other stuff together and trying to gather my gauges and stuff. Keep posted for updates.

im so jealous. that truck is gonna come out beautiful bro. Awesome ideas and good plan for the motor. I know a guy around town that has the harms in 22s. If you really want i can try to take some pics of the truck so you can take a look at what it looks like. It looks absolutely sick and might change your mind or give you other ideas. Its a white scsb sport side on something liek a 6/10 or so with 22s in the back. Let me know if your interested.

I bought some SEM Sand Free from O'Reileys and sprayed it on as directed. What it is is an adhesion promoter that kinda dissolves the top surface and while its still wet you spray on a light coat of paint. I just used some of my black basecoat and it turned out great without any chipping or peeling. I also wet sanded it before any of the painting. As far as the covered part, just rip off the factory foam and sand all the original glue off. Recover with whatever fabric you choose. Dont forget to used the original fabric as a template when cutting the new material.Ill get some better pics with my camera soon. Thanks for the comments. Hope yours turns out well.

These wheels from centerline are on clearance i think like 170 per for 20"s ... they looked like your style so i thought I would post them

I really like my centerlines they polish up really great and stay polished for a long time as long as you wash them with the rest of the truck.
Good luck with your search

Man your truck is going to look sinister, definitly something to be aware of while driving on the street, it just looks mean. Open up the hood and then you get slammed with a high tech looking LT1, due to all the custom parts such as the intricatly shaped brackets and smooth valve covers. That truck just, is awesome! I cant really explain it. By far will be hands down the coolest 2wd OBS I've seen. I love stepsides too, I just wish mine was that nice. Keep up the awesome work!

The wheels were on clearance at centerline.com
http://www.centerlinewheels.com/wheel_deals.php
they have a pretty good selection and thats where i bought mine but the prices change so if you see a good one scoop it up.
they had them in chrome as well i think they were only $100 more per wheel

Hey guys, I started doin some wiring this weekend. Just plugged everything in and found where Im mounting my PCM. Its going to be inside the truck on the passenger side where the firewall meets the floor. I put it in there and then covered it back with the carpet and you cant even tell its really there. Now need to get my battery and cables and start hard wiring some other stuff in. Also need a fuel pump outta about a 98 vortec or an TPI camaro.

You can notice the original opening for the computer is where my harness is running though. There is plenty of length on it to reach. There are several wires and stuff I am going to eliminate from the passenger side of the harness that I dont need.
Also ordered the ribbed stainless steel radiator and heater hoses! As soon as I get my core support actually mounted in Im going to make a dual intake setup with a Y at the TB and intake tube on each side.

Worked a lil more on it last night. Got the Battery cables hooked up, some vaccum lines connected, swap bar and end links on along with the steering.
Got everything tucked away so my covers will go back on now. Have to notch the new valve covers for the alt. is why they are not on yet.

This one kinda shows the front suspension and steering painted silver with the new busings.
FYI they make "special" valve cover just for the LT1's because of the alt.
As usual, nice work.

Got the new pump put in and back half painted(not in the picture). Need to go ahead and do a notch in the frame for at least a 6" drop now. (does anyone have a 4-6 drop for sale?)And fix the little dent under the back window and replace cab corner. Also trying to find some calipers and posi rearend before it goes back on the road. I think Im gonna need a little help on my wiring cause I have never done much of that but it shouldnt be too difficult.

I just caught this thread, and I have to say that you are doing one hell of a job there! I have the same engine setting in my garage waiting to go in my 86 Burban.
As far as the Foose wheels go, good luck, they dont make those anymore for the 5 on 5 bolt pattern anymore, I bought a set of 17" for my 99 Burban a few weeks back, one wheel had a defect and when I tried to get a replacement MHT told me they no longer made the wheel and wont be making anymore. They did look sweet though, I ended up ordering a set of 18" Coys C5 in the grey finish.

Hahaha na, better not! Im trying to hide as much stuff as I can without being too complicated. Should look decent when Im done. I just cant wait any longer. I am doing this myself and the wiring is killin me. Its not too bad just sorta overwhelming at first but its getting better. I also bought the Royal Purple oil for this engine(stuff is not cheap at all) but I want it to last. Next will come my rearend with disk brakes! And Im buying my buddy's ZEX nitrous kit from him. I just got in some drop spindles and gonna lower the truck 4-6 before it goes back on the road.(does anyone have coils or a flip kit for sale?) I also have to get a few more gauges and wire them up but its finding time now to do so. Its killing me being so close but not able to finish it yet! I have got it to turn over but not fired it up yet. I also have to get an Optima battery cause my other one is shot! anyways Ill keep yall posted as it comes along.

Your truck is going to be bad ass. I remember when I was in the final assembly of my TA. It was so exciting to almost be done. I stayed up for 3 days working on it. Got it done the night before my senior year. I don't know why I did that though. I always parked behind the auto shop and no one ever saw it. My truck is probably going to end up with either a ram jet intake or I might put a fuel injected 400 cid pontiac motor in it. Not sure yet.

UPDATE 8/21/07:
My truck will be wired up this coming saturday! I talked with the man who is doing it and he said it should only take us roughly 3-4 hours to do it and make it look good! Then its time to put it all back together again. I hope to have it on the streets by Sept. 14 to take it to the grand rod run in Pigeon Forge, TN. This guy does tins of LT1 swaps into OBS trucks and he says mine will make great power and still get 18+ MPG. Tell me thats not awesome! Keep posted for more detail and pics to come!

Why not just buy a Painless harness instead of paying someone else to do it?
91blkstpsd
08-22-2007, 08:10 AM
Cause painless harnesses are expensive and alot of stuff on them I wont use. I may not even have to pay this guy. We may just swap some work, I can do powdercoating and he is an engine builder and wants some intakes, heads, and stuff done and said we probably wouldnt have to have any money involved!
You should see what this guy has built! Ill get some pics up later. He has a OBS reg cab, stepside with an LT1 and twin turbos with 100 nitrous! The engine is a stock caprice engine with only new pistons and the tranny is the 4l60E with a shift kit and stall. He is runnin a 7.33 right now in a 1/8th and is about to build it some more! Then he is also building a 396 LT1 with twin turbos for his 68 Firebird!

Well fellows, Im pretty pissed. I got my truck ready and took to the guy on saturday. Got there and he wasnt home, his kid said he had to go help someone last minute and wouldnt be back til late. So I was ticked about that. So I had the kid call him on his cell to see about doing it Sunday. Well he said sure Ill be up about 10 and we can get it done. So I took my back home and just pulled it into the shop still on the trailer. Sunday comes along and I go to church and about 10:30 get a voicemail from him saying he can only work on it til about 1! This really ticks me off cause I dont get out of church til about 12 so that leaves me no time! SO now I have to wait til next Saturday to do it. At least it will give me some time to wire up my gauges now and do some other small things. Here are a few pics to enjoy of the weekend.
Please keep in mind the wiring will all be hidden and the radiator support piece is just temporary until I make one out of aluminum!

Hey fellows, The truck runs now! We got things wired up this weekend. Only took a few hours and would not have that long if we hadnt run into a couple slight problems. Every single injector was clogged and not squirting! So after a little tapping and cleaning we got all of them to work. The guy really knew what he was doing and helped out alot! Right now it looks a huge mess just because its all mostly temporary for time being. This week Im going to clean it al up and go back and solder all my connections and hide the wiring and everything. I have a small clip of it when first fired up but runs rough because I dont have both O2 sensors in, just one because of the headers only have one bung. Also need a knock sensor and the injectors may still be a little stuck but ill post it anyways. Also gonna get exhaust run hopefully this week. Think Im going with the new Super 44 from Flowmaster. True duals with turn downs after the axle. Let me know what you guys think and thanks for all the comments!

man I hate cali. smog laws. I would live to do this to my beast
Yeah I removed all smog and emissions crap that boggs an engine down! Oh and to let yall know how Im doing my gauges. I will make a flat plate out of aluminum and cut out for my 3 3/8" speedo and tach and other gauges. Then Ill use some small indicator lights and tap into the factory turn signals and bright lights. I also pulled the wire from the new computer to keep the check engine light along with the oil pressure and overheat lights. I also bought a OBDII port and traced the wires from the computer to hook it up as well so I can use a handheld programmer or laptop to fine tune things.
Quick question: Would you think it stupid or would look bad if I put all the indicators(turn signals, brights, warning lights, etc.) in the front slot of my overhead console? There is nothing there right now and it would be different and then my interior would look more like a ****pit or something. Or just put them inside the cluster with other gauges? Just an idea I had.I dunno

I got some more wiring done last night. Im having to lenghten some wires to give me enough slack to hide it all and redo my temporary connections. The drivers side is pretty much doen and the passenger side with the computer is getting there too. I just need to straighten up the wires going up the firewall and tie it all together and put it into some new loom. Check out the pics. When done you might only be able to see a couple inches of harness that goes into the firewall! Looking good IMO.

Thanks man. I got the covers off of ebay for like $110. The center tubes where the bolts go needed to be cut down about 1/4" to seat tight with the gaskets but other than that they have PLENTY of room inside for any rockers, stud girdles, or whatever you want. I like them since I have never seen another set like these on an engine, especially an LT1.

VIDEOS!!!! Hey guys, I got the engine running again last night and too some videos! I already have one up on photobucket and myspace if you want to check them out! Ill post more as time allows and put them on YouTube. It started up pretty good but seems like its running a little rich cause it pops sometimes and will shoot a flame out the headers haha. Also seems like its idling a bit too high. I think the injectors are not all squirting like they should, may still be slightly clogged up. But anyways, hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!

At the show I bought two mufflers. Im not sure how they are going to sound but I got a heck of a deal on them. They are brand new Borla polished stainless steel. The guy that had them owns a exhaust shop and he had two left and had them marked down to $75 each and I just was checking them out and he said he would make me a deal, both for $100! So I couldnt pass that up! if they dont sound good Ill cut them off and put something different. Anyone have any idea what these will sound like? I have heard them on some vettes and stuff. I dunno. Anyways, Im having new 2.5" pipe ran from the headers back and over the axle and dump off on each side.Keep posted for more progress! Its getting close!

Hey fellows, I got a little more done this week. I painted the underside of my bed and put it back on. I let my buddies do most of it since they have never painted before and it turned out pretty decent.(alot better than the factory primer that was showin) Today after work Im gonna paint my inner fenders and back of rollpan and a few other parts such as the Corvette covers and such. Also bought some billet pedals and Lecarra billet steering wheel with black leather wrap off ebay. Only gave $40 for pedals and $50 for the wheel!
Here are some pics to enjoy.
And No, thats not me in the picture and yes we painted at night! haha

Well exhaust isnt on yet, got the truck loaded up and ready to go and called the muffler shop and their pipe bender ram went out! I tell you, if it wasnt for bad luck I wouldnt have any luck at all. So maybe sometime this week I can get it done. Here is a pic of how my dash will look. This is just placed in there for now, have to tidy up some wires behind it. All my dash and plastics are soon to be smoothed and painted blick too.

looks nice bro. Get rid of that stock steering wheel also when you have the chance. I would go with a leather wrapped billet wheel. IT would look nice and compliment everything in your interior as well. Especially if you do your dask and stuff. Thanks for the pic. Im gonna do this sometime like i told you so this really gives me a better look as to what im getting at. Good luck on the rest.

Thanks man! Its starting to come together a little bit now. I already bought a Lecarra black leather wheel(see page8), pedals, and sill plates. I dont have them on yet cause I dont want them scratched up and need a hub adapter for the wheel. (does any brand work or will it have to be Lecarra?) Im not sure if i want to paint the gauge trim black or polish it. The black would set off the gauges more and polished would possibly blind me when the sun hits it!haha I dunno.

Thanks TPICHEVY, I am using the Autometer Ultralite series all electric.(2 1/16" Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Volts, Fuel Level, 3 3/8" Tach) I used all the senders with the gauges and didnt really splice into anything in the harness except the tach wire and fuel gauge. The install wasnt hard at all just time consuming. I dont have the indicator lights hooked up yet so I dunno how hard that will be. I just found out today where I can get a complete 95+ interior so I may upgrade to it later and Ill sell the panel I made if anyone is interested in it. The Gauges I got mostly off ebay but the Tach from JEGS. The small gauges will run you about $40-$50 each and tach is $100. I just need the speedo and its 200 freaking bucks! So ill wait on that haha.

Na not magnaflow right now. I got a hack of a deal on two brand new Stainless mufflers so Im gonna try those with 2.5" pipe all the way back and then dump off after the axle. Im not sure how they will sound but I got both for $100 so I couldnt pass it up. If I dont like them ill just go to something else but I like to be different so who knows! Any ideas on how it will sound?
And as fas as sellin, it would just be the panel itself not all the gauges. I would reuse them on the new dash. But that will be a while before I do any of that probably.

Hey guys, just been thinking about some paint and stuff. I found a great company that sells flat ans satin paint thats cheap and have tons of choices. What would you think of for right now until I can save up enough to get it painted, just doing it myself in either solid satin black or two tone with the colors below. Either black and silver or black and charcoal? I think it would be pretty sweet for now. Any opinions of can anyone do a chop for me? THanks

Hey fellows, I did a little more last night on the truck. I smoked another set of taillights. This time much darker than the others. Also primed my tailgate and painted the corvette covers and dash pieces. I will go back and paint the letters on the covers silver to make it stand out more. And the engine bay is still not completely done, needs some more wires arranged and the front clip put back on.

To smoke them: I use the color basecoat paint, just mix it up as directed on the can. Then take your clearcoat and mix up as directed. Pour just a small amount of the color into the clear until it looks like the color and mix the two together.(this is usually mixed like 1 part paint to 20 parts clear, very small amount) Just spray on the lenses evenly, trying to keep a consistant amount on all. If you spray more on one area it will come out with light and dark spots. Just start with light coats and apply as many as desired to get the shade you want.
Here is a pic just for you tpichevy! haha

I went to the junkyard saturday and picked up some goodies! I got a heck of a deal on some 95+ power leather seats, another overhead console, and sun visors. All for $60!!!! I think I may start going there and buying then reselling on ebay or other places. The seats have some slight wear and are dark blue so for now Im just going to dye them black and get them recovered later. I am also looking for the 99+ full center console to put in also. Gonna shape it to fit up to the dash and maybe house a TV in the front. If anyone has dyed these seats before let me know how hard or what I need to do. I ordered some SEM satin black leather/vinyl dye and leather prep so hope it works.

Ok, I dyed my seats last night and they look GRRRREAT! I am very pleased with the look. I used the SEM leather prep and then the Color Coat. Very easy to do and they look almost brand new now. There is still some slight wear but the new black color got rid and blended most of it in.I also colored all the trim and handles for the seats and painted the frames satin black. Now have to find a console and carpet and Ill install.

Thanks, they look like a totally different seat now. The dye blended in all the light worn spots and they look great! Could not be happier with the result! Also yesterday on my lunch break I went to the same junk yard and picked up the full NBS console for only $40! I love that place! Im gonna smooth and paint it like my dash also. Im gonna try to make the front fit up to the dash, will have to modify it some or just do like another member here by making a front piece out of wood and blend it in. I want to put a TV in it too.

Thanks TPICHEVY, I believe I am gonna go with the ones in my sig. They are Coys C5 in a 20x8.5 front and 20x10 rear. They will have the charcoal centers with a polished lip. I think it will look pretty good plus they are not as expensive as some others I have looked into.
As far as the console goes it was a piece of cake. Just get yourself an extra set of hands and will be no problem. Just hold the console up to the roof with the back of the console about to touch the rear trim. Then mark and cut a hole in the headliner where the front mounting hole for the console will go. To mount the rear of the console you will need to cut off those two big tabs first so it will mount flush with the headliner. Next open up the cd tray and there will be a flat plastic lip about 2" or so and just screw two sheetmetal screws into it. Be careful when doing this and not go through the top of your roof, as soon as you feel it get into the metal you should stop. As far as wiring up the map lights, just tap into the power from the dome light and run the ground wire to the ground on the dome. Ill put a link to show you pictures except you dont have to cut quite such a big hole in the front.

Thanks man, I am going to get special insurance on it cause I will drive this this several days a week and not be a trailer queen! Its getting so close its killin me not to be driving it right now! Maybe all the work is worth it in the end. And I still love the Bonspeeds but they are pricey and might not be a good idea for a daily driver so ill probably go with the Coys in my sig.I will go with 20"x8.5 in front and a 20"x10 out back with about a 315/40/20 rubber or thereabout.

Hey guys, I havent been workin too much on the truck lately due to us finding out my dad has kidney cancer. He is scheduled to have his kidney, adrinal gland, and the mass taken out tomorrow at St.Thomas hospital. Then they will start him on some biological meds. Sick truck. Very impressed. I don't mean to jack this thread but I'm doing a very similar swap. Mine is going into an '92 ecsb with a 5 speed. I have a couple of quick questions. What did you do for the radiator? Did you use one from a Camaro? Did you ever find out who made the A/C bracket? How hard was it to intergrate the engine harness to the factory truck harness? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The radio section and the trim around the cluster is already smoothed and painted gloss black.

The white plastic is to keep my new carpet from getting dirty. haha

To dye plastic, leather, or vinyl you first need some stuff called SEM vinyl/leather prep. Make sure your parts are fairly clean and spray on this and set for a min then wipe off. Next use SEM Sand Free as an adhesion promoter and spray on a nice light, even coat and while its still tacky spray a fog coat of the SEM Color Coat of your choice.(I have included a pic and part number for my Satin Black I used) after that dries you can start apraying on several light coats until everything is the color you want. Be sure not to spray too heavy of a coat, this is not paint and needs to absorb into the material. Good luck with it and post us some pics if you try it.

Got a little more interior work done. The other seat is mounted in now and some more trim too. I painted the gauge plate black to make the gauges stand out more. I am loving this color combo in here. So much better than the burgundy. I still need to finish up those door panels but not sure how I want to recover them. Anyone know how to get rid of the big pocket on the bottom?

Thanks you too! Hope its a good one! I got the tach and other gauges wired up this afternoon. Its holding about 50 pounds of OIL pressure at idle and bumps on up to about 65 or so when I rev it up. Also it idles at about 800RPM and I can see the needle varying because of the cam! Ill post the video I took of it maybe tomorrow.

I would say about 8 cans but thats doing the seats and everything so minus 2 if youre only doing the rest of the interior. Also this is with at least 3 coats to make sure no color came through. It looks and works great and I would suggest this to anyone who is considering changing color in their vehicle!

Ok fellers, here is some pics of the gauges you wanted. I still have to buy a speedometer to match but its $200 bucks so it may be a little while longer. The panel is not installed yet because im finishing up some wiring but the gauges do work and I have a small video of it for your enjoyment. ;-) Ill post more when I get everything installed and prettied up! Let me know what you think. Oh and teh enpty slot in the left corner is where the gear indicator is going also.

Well fellows, progress has been slow lately. I had to take out my trans because it had a bad pump. So i went ahead and had it built and also added a higher volume pump and a TCI 2200 stall with nitrous plate. ;-) I have the trans bolted back up to the engine but tonight Im going to bolt back up the exhaust and othe misc stuff. Went ahead and cleaned and painted the whole underside of my cab and frame also. Looks great. Hopefully within the next week I can drive it again. Also ordered some gears for it last week. Im going with a 3.42 gear and the PosiTraxx locker. It will still be driven on the street quite often so I didnt want anything too drastic. Well thats all for now.

Thanks 05BowtieHD and everyone else who has commented on the truck. I finished up the trans last night and bolted up the exhaust end everything. I ran some hard trans lines and adding a big front mount cooler. All that needs to be done now is add some more fluid and go test it out. I was told that since I dont have a speedometer yet that the trans wont shift pst 2nd gear so I will order one with my next check. I need to finish up my interior also by making me some door panels.

Haha. Yeah it is time consuming doing it mostly by yourself. I would love to make it to Carlisle but thats a pretty good drive for me :-( We'll see though. Im hoping by summer to get it painted and have wheels on it so I can show it some.

WOO HOO! I drove my truck yesterday! Got all the trans stuff back in and checked everything over and it went into gear so I pulled it out of the shop! Engine was running good and i let it sit a few minutes and then drove it down the road. It shifted into all gears and runs good but I think just a little rich. I drove it up and down the side street a few times. I got on it a little and it will break the tires loose at 30mph easy! Im loving it already! The only thing is it is not charging so Im gonna get my alt tested and there is a small oil leak coming from the timing cover Ill have to fix, but those are minor. I didnt get a video cause I was too excited. haha But I will get one in the next few days.
