View Full Version : How do I get more power out of my TBI? tucks20s 02-05-2007, 09:17 AM ................. Fast305 02-05-2007, 10:33 AM Why 46 lb/hr injectors? Those are what come in the 4.3 V6. The 305s came with 55 lb/hr injectors. The 350 came with 55, 61, 65, 68, and 74 lb/hr depending on the year and application. Civilian Caprice = 55 lb/hr Truck, SUV = 61 lb/hr Caprice 9C1 = 65 & 68 lb/hr Fullsize Van = 68 and 74 lb/hr The heads are not restricting your engine the way it sits. 93ChevyTBI 02-05-2007, 10:36 AM Where you at in KY? Anyway, stock 61lb injectors should work with more psi and stronger pump. Everything else you listed looked good. On the cam, if Brian's doing it, let him help you make the selection to speed up the tuning. Personally I'd try the Voodoo 60101 if I was gonna do it all over again. Comp's extreme energy cam with .454 lift on the exhaust (can't remember the number) would also be good. Bottom line though, you need better heads to get the most out of your mods. Heads and voodoo with your other goodies would put you over 300hp with the tune. Fast305 02-05-2007, 10:41 AM Where you at in KY? You can get 300 flwheel HP at 5,000 rpm fairly easily, WITH STOCK HEADS. tucks20s 02-05-2007, 07:04 PM Where you at in KY? I'm in western, ky in Muhlenberg. If you're anywhere around me then you'd know me by my last showtruck which was "Simple Green" Do a search in the snapshots forum and you'll see it. You can get 300 flwheel HP at 5,000 rpm fairly easily, WITH STOCK HEADS. the 300-350 hp range is what I'm wanting out of this engine. I said 45lb, but when I went back and looked what I had ordered it was 65 lb hr. Are those gonna do the job? What can I do to get my engine up to the hp range I want it at and what kind of cost am I going to be looking at? So you don't think I need any head work? Should I just get some new rockers and lifters should I go with? I talked to Brian and he said " For nice inexpensive cam, try the Summit racing SUM-1102 with a set of rhoads variable duration lifters and a set of 1.6 roller tip rockers $80 from http://paceperformance.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=178072 and a $26 set of Z28 valve springs http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?action=prod_detail&catid=2060&pid=81625 Which is going to give you about as much performance as those crappy stock TBI heads have to offer and you will like the powerband of that package" How does that sound and how much power do you think I'll be getting out of that setup, could you run it through that program of yours if you have time? If you don't then that's fine. Fast305 02-05-2007, 07:15 PM I'm in western, ky in Muhlenberg. What do you recommend chevoholic 08-30-2007, 06:05 PM everyone has been advised to go with the K-1102 that wants something noticeable over stock! i did as well but am yet to install it! i think fast305 laughed at it cause u did say you want it to be in the 300hp area and i believe their are other cams that can get you their easier! oldred95 08-30-2007, 07:29 PM Well why did he tell me to get it? What do you recommend To make his job easier/seem more effective. I have a comp xe249H-12 and its a really mild but torquey cam. More or less an RV cam that is comparable to a summit 1102 cam. I was recommended it and wish I had never gotten it but with the vortec heads it does just fine. I can honestly say 300 tuned HP is a pretty amazing feeling. My truck has never ever ran this good, nor would it ever have ran this good without tuning. Not only that its getting its best gas mileage ever too. The summit 1103 is a nice budget cam, respectable torque and HP. Also the Comp XE268 is a nice cam, simular power band to the summit 1103, just an all around better designed more efficient cam, but more expensive too. As it sits now you either need more fuel pressure or bigger injectors. Tbi-MAX 08-31-2007, 08:47 AM they k1102 with the tbi heads, is a noticeable gain over the stock bump stick... which is terrible. but for more power choose a bigger cam. I use the 1103 on my 383, but im thinking about changing that to a roller with even more lift, and something from Lutani.. but no time soon. discostu 08-31-2007, 11:20 AM Yeah for your mods if you want a cheap cam go with Summit K1103. For a better cam for more money look at a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy or Xtreme Fuel Injection with a powerband to suit your needs. 77bignasty 08-31-2007, 01:12 PM According to my Desktop Dyno 2003 the summit 1103 cam would give you about a 20hp increase over the 1102 (with stock 193 heads and small tube headers w/ mufflers) but lose some torque. The best cam I found so far is the Isky 264-MEGA cam. It produced more hp than the 1103 but with a torque curve similar to the 1102. I put the 1102 in my truck. If I had to do it all over again, I wished I had of tried the Isky cam. It would work well with the stock heads and with the addition of 1.6:1 roller rockers, work well with Vortecs. 77bignasty 08-31-2007, 06:07 PM If I were going to build a TBI engine, I would use the Isky X-20. It would work well with the stock heads and with the addition of 1.6:1 roller rockers, work well with Vortecs. Yeah, I tried it too. It looked fairly impressive especially with it being a solid lifter cam. The hp curve was exactly the same as the 264-MEGA cam, but the torque curve was a lot lower. I was just looking through there catalog at the X-20 cam when I stumbled upon the 264-MEGA cam, and it still has impressed me the most so far. But I do know that DD is just an estimate and may not reflect what these cams will do in a real engine. vBulletin v3.5.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
