I have a 01 ext.cab and I was wanting to put 1 10" sub underneath the rear seat. Question is how big or small does the box have to be or does it really matter. I was going to go to a stereo place and pick up a custom box that they already sell made to fit under the seat and put in the sub. Im not looking for some bass inside the truck not outside so I wasnt looking for nothing fancy. Any advice.

Well it definately matters how much cubic space the box has! That all depends on the particular sub you get. Boxes vary, and I personally like them ported. But each sub has a recommended cubic space to be put on, and it performs at it's peak when in that enclosure. If you're lookin to buy a pre-made box & just "stick a sub in there" then I suggest you figure out exactly how much space that box has & buy a sub accordingly.
If you just want something to give a little extra bump for cheap, you can probably find a sub to match the enclosure space rating for cheap. Not only that, most cheap subd dont need much ampage, so you can get away with buying a smaller, cheaper amp accordingly.

It definitely matters. You need to either pick a sub based on a box or pick a box based on a sub, just arbitrarily doing it is a recipe for a terrible sounding sub stage.

And remember... The stereo store will charge you to stick it in your bum. As a general idea for you, the closer to 1 cubic foot, and the more mounting depth the box has, the more choices, as far a subs go, you will have. (an underseat box that only takes up 1 side will probably not be near that large.

Agreed, great and 5/8" mdf should never be used together.
