Is there anyone that makes a stereo head unit and a gps navigation package in one? In going to college next year and my mom really wants to get me a GPS thing, but I dont want some ugly box on top of my dash and would really like one with a screen. Idealy I want something with a navigation screen - big display (double din), and thats sirius capable and is a good stereo player with ipod connectivity...price isnt really that important. If I could find something like this I suppose I would replace my apline 9856 with it as my cd player.

thanks

I put the Kenwood DDX6019 into my truck a few months ago. It has many of the things you mentioned, double din in height, GPS compatiable, sirius ready, the only part I can not comment about is the Ipod. The GPS and sirius are both add on boxes that I purchased via e-bay. In fact I purchased everything I needed to include the headunit from e-bay for about 50% less then what it would have been threw a store.

I am very happy with the equipment and the installation for me was very easy to accomplish.

Have a nice day.

I have an Eclipse 5500. It has the navigation built in. Double din 6.5 screen that plays DVD's also. Sirius and Ipod adapters can be purchased seperately. I got mine off ebay for $1000. Hard deal to beat. Just be careful. Many of the unit say NAV but you have to by an external brain.

Get an Avic Z1. It is double din, 7 inch screen, sirius ready, hard drive, and navigation built in. Their navigation also has the most points of interest of all the top brands.

My second pick would be an elcipse avn5500, avn6600 or avn5495. The eclipse radios have better output voltage, but the navigation is not quite as good.

Best value would be to get a Pioneer avic d1 or d2. they are just like the z1 but no hard drive and no dvd playback.

Yeah the Z1 is sweet. I guess a price range is in order for this thread. I know price isnt important but some are over $2k.

I dont really need DVD functionality (its a bonus, of course). However I do need:

- GPS navigation
- Setero capibility (good sound quality), I would be using it with my rockford t8004 amp so it needs RCA preouts
- Some way of connecting an ipod
- Some way of connecting Sirius satelite radio
- Double din in size
- Price limit of roughly $1500, the $1000-$1200 range is ideal.

I plan to add the sirius reciever if I need to, so thats not a big deal, I just want this to be able to incoporate it without having to use the sirius display.

thanks guys

The Eclipse AVN 5500 is available on Ebay for about $1025 shipped. It has all the features your asking for. The sirius tuner for an Eclipse will run you about another $100. The ipod adapter will be another $50. This is an all in one unit. The brain is mounted in the unit. So your looking at a total of $1175.

Ok, a few things to add

- Touch screen, really want it.
- I dont want one that comes out then flips up; I would like one with just the screen.
- I like the idea of a hard drive*
- I like the sound of voice commands too, but this is one is a bonus, not mandatory.

*How does the nav work? Is it already stored on the hard drive? If so, is there anyway I can confirm it has my area in there? It would be rather pointless if it didnt. If there isnt a hard drive and it uses a dvd instead, what will that mean in terms of functionality? I wont need any space for storage (80gb ipod), just for navigation...does the hard drive store where I travel often for quicker loads or what?

The AVN 5500 is touch screen. It is also flatscreen is does not fold out. It does not have a hard drive. The Navigation disk has to be inserted. And yes it has voice commands.

Would we all be in agreement that the Avic Z1 is the best and has everything I listed?

Would we all be in agreement that the Avic Z1 is the best and has everything I listed?Total agreement. The Z1 is the best. It was just a little more than I cared to spend. I took the extra money to get headrest monitors.

The only downside to the z1 is the preouts, they only have 2v output. Not that big of a deal. The z1 should have your area on it. It uses 12 million points of interest compared to Eclipse which uses 8 million.

I think you made the right choice in going for the z1. I can't afford one at the moment (last semester of college). I will get one in the future.

I did see on ebay the other day a Z1 that was the Japanese model. It was exactly the same except it had a slot for minidiscs. I could not confirm if the navigation would work in the US so I did not buy it.

The pre-out of my alpine is only 2v and its fine, so I think ill be ok.

The only thing im kind of iffy on is the ipod interface...some say its ok, others say it sucks and I use my ipod alot with my cd player.

The bypass so you can have full functionality without the parking break seems easy enough, so thats no big...I just hope its not too bright...I did just get done tinting my alpine, lol.
