ok heres the deal, the y-pipe on my tahoe is starting to rot out, so insted of just getting a new y-pipe i plan on getting a set of these edelbrock tes headers...
its going to be running through a flomaster 40 series and no cat.

are the headers any good?
pain in the ass to put on?
anyone have any experience with them?
what should i look for when doing the headers? install seems pretty straight forward... i have done some headers that have been a total pain in the ass but nothing on a 4x4, so these should be no problem (i think)
I just finished installing mine today. (66663)
The headers themselves have got to be the nicest headers I have ever installed. Lots of room around them, spark plugs are still accessible, slid in real easy (I do have the fenders off but I still think they would have been easy regardless)
The Y pipe is a different story ( I plan on sending them an email even though I don't think they'll care) The end of the Ypipe is oval shaped instead of round making it more difficult to attach to a pipe. I dont know if they made it like that to attach to the stock converter or what but it made it a PITA. I had to squish a 3" pipe in my vice so that it would start over the odd shaped end, then install it all, tack weld it, take it down, finish the weld, reinstall to measure to flange, remove to weld on flange etc. In about 10 min or so, I will finally install it and leave it on. IMO if they had left it round, like the set of flowtechs I just got in here for a customer, everyone would be much better off.

thanks for the advice! so all in all, are they worth getting even with the y-pipe problem?
It has been 2 years since I have installed headers on anything and they went on by far a lot easier than headman, hooker headers (2 brands that I remember for sure) These Flowtechs I just put on a K1500 eclb went on without a hitch as well, IMO not quite as nice around the plugs but better than others I have seen.
Provided you have the necessary equipment and parts (ie welder, pipe cutting tools) the install wasn't really that bad, I just figured for what I paid for them, I shouldn't have had to go through so many off and ons. The y pipe where it was expanded to fit together would not go in enough to hit both headers so I had to cut that too.
but back to the point, yes I think they are a good purchase even with the hassle.

I'm wondering what diameter the y-pipe exit is. Edelbrock tech dept. told me it was 2 1/4", but that doesn't seem right.
