okay. so i was vaccuming my truck out today, and the carpet on the driver's side felt wet.... so i investigated, and once i had all the plastic removed, i found that the entire left side of my truck's floor, front and back (carpet, padding) was soaking wet!!!! it's like someone turned on a garden hose in my truck!!!! and it smells horrible!!! it's moldy!!!!!!!!!!!

The worse thing is I CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY THE INSIDE OF MY TRUCK IS SOAKING WET!!!!!!!!

when I run the a/c, it's been smelling moldy for over a month. could it be that the a/c has backed up and flooded my cab? but if that is the cause of the wet carpet, why is the passenger side dry?

i'm quite perplexed.
:nopity:
there is no logical way my carpet could get soaked by over a gallon of water, and me not notice it for so long!!!

Any ideas of what might have caused this water to enter my cab and completely soak the padding and carpet of the left side of my truck? by the way i have a crew cab.

Is it a leak into the truck or an a/c problem?

What year truck? I had this problem on my 99 sierra, come to find out the front windshied seal had worn out and water was leaking down the A Pillar, down the firewall and into the drivers side floor board. I took it to a auto glass place and they re-sealed it.

I've got a 2004 GMC Sierra crew cab.

I've read this thread and heard hundreds of the same stories like mine from 1987-2007 body styles WITH THE SAME PROBLEM!

maybe GM should pay attention and make some changes at the factory!

any other ideas for the problem?

i don't think it's the a/c. i think theres a leak somewhere around the e-brake pedal area. i've taken it to the dealer to see what they can do. it's gonna cost me an arm and a leg to get fixed.... :(

My dad's got a 2004 pontiac grand prix and the same thing happened. One morning the passenger side front footwell had a puddle of water in it. But it never happened again after that. The weather stripping was somehow bad for one night. Maybe the door was open a crack when you washed it, or there is a gap on the joint above the door in CC's or something, I've never had that problem on my regular cab.

UPDATE:

I took my truck to the dealer this morning to see what they could do. They tested it with a water hose for half a day. Believe it or not, the weld and/or the sealant has failed, right where the kick panel, cowl, fender, and firewall meet on the driver's side-- right by the e-brake. I haven't looked at it myself, but the dealer said they would take the fender off to see if it is a bad weld on the outside or bad sealant on the inside...or both. They said they'd fix it with a spot weld and/or sealant on both sides. :weld:

There have been technical service bulletins on the cowl being leaky, but this wasn't the case with me. They said that they ran water all over the top of the truck, including the cowl--with no leaking. Then they squirted water from under the truck and found the leak. The way the water got in was by my tires slinging up water when it rained this week.

Here's the thing. They refuse to honor my extended warranty. I know that this has to be some kind of manufacturing defect, because welds and sealants just don't go bad after 56,000 miles. If they did, then they'd recall it. do yall agree?

So I'm not exactly sure what caused the weld and/or sealant to open up enough to put over a gallon of water in the jute (padding) under my carpet, but i know one thing... the dealer better fix it right or i'll be making them do it again.

Oh, and of course, i've contacted GM concerning this matter and if i have my way, i'll be getting a reimbursement check for $600 in the mail soon...:whacko:

so there's an update. I hope this helps others with the same problem.

Any ideas on how to persuade GM to reimburse me?

2004 with how many miles, if its never been wrecked i'd argue warranty, they prolly wont do nething but it never hurts to try. Or go to a body shop

2004 with 56000 miles. its never been wrecked either. I'm arguing the warranty and if i can't get anything with the warranty, i'll contact GMC in Detroit (or wherever they are). I'm not paying for this problem that probably was caused by poor workmanship.
