Any thoughts on getting a '72 4x4 home, that is 2 hours away and not running? I think that having it towed would be cost prohibitive. Will a log bed fit on a Uhaul auto transport?

if its easily fixable, just fix it and drive it home

i had a 1/2 ton dodge van break down on me 51/2 hrs from the house , uhaul said that it would not fit and was to heavy for their tow dollies. see if any one you know , knows someone with a car or race traier. a 14ft flatbed should be enough for that wheelbase.

Not sure about an easy fix. They say that the "motor has no compression". Even if it was an easy fix the truck is not road worthy.

Wyatt Earp did you use uhaul anyway?

disconnect the driveshafts from the differentials, tie them up towards the frame and the bed, get some good straps and tow it home with another truck avoiding the freeways. If you get pulled over you just bought yerself a truck and it broke down, and yer buddy is towing you home.

no i did not use uhaul. a family friend knew someone with a 14ft flatbed trailer. heres an idea if you have AAA membership they will tow it up to 100 miles , if you don't have AAA see if one of yor buds or family does. then just have them call and have it towed for you to as close as you can get it then drag 'er the rest of the way with the straps. hope you get it home, a two hour ride at 55mph driving isn't to bad but behind a strap with no power will take 4-5 hrs and wear you out! hope my ideas help.

You might see if they have a tow bar that clamps to the front bumper,Try a tool rental place for a trailer or tow bar rental

go to uhaul and get a car dollie tell them that it is for a geo storm or something like that. it is not to big nor to heavy for there dollies, i have put an 83 cadallac sedan deville on one and pulled it 9 hrs home no problems
