This is the first set of components i've installed (Crystal sscs 6's), and i must say it was A LOT of work. i'm sure it will be easier the second time around, but good god it was a lot of work. as for how they sound.....AMAZING.
I started by laying some raammat on the outer door skin. i couldn't put much back there b/c of the limited access i had to everything back there. i concentrated mainly on the area directly behind the speaker opening. next, i sealed as many open holes in the doors w/ some thin sheet metal. I secured that w/ 1/2" sheet metal screws. I had to leave a few holes open b/c thats where the door panel latched on. I then layed down a layer of raammat over the inner doorskin. i covered all of the sheetmetal i just put on, and then covered the rest of the door. next, i put on a layer of ensolite.
next was the mdf rings. i don't have a router...so i had to use a jigsaw. this ate up a lot of time b/c i then had to sand them down to make em look pretty. before i mounted the rings, i layed down some non-hardening molding clay on the doors. i then used 1 1/2" 8mm bolts to mount the rings in place. i drilled holes just big enough for the bolts, but on the front side, i took a 1/2" bit and drilled it out 1/4" deep...this is so the nuts would be flush w/ the ring. once bolted down, i marked the bolts w/ a sharpie and cut them down to the right size w/ a dremel & cutting wheel. once i was done i put some more clay around the rings.
the tweeters were mounted in the stock location. i removed the stockers and cut a new mounting plate out of plywood. i drilled out a hole for the tweeters to fit in and then mounted everything w/ 5mm bolts. i also cut these bolts down to size w/ the dremel.
i had to trim the door panels to clear the new speakers...so i used the trusty dremel tool for this as well.
Thanks goes out to M5/// and 95stroked1500 for all of your help. I basically copied M5///'s installed based on the thread he made about his install. I didn't deaden things as much as he did...but i did my best.
As for pictures...none for now. i took some sparatically as i went along, but i haven't uploaded them to my laptop yet. i will soon though.
If anyone is planning on intalling components, and are new to the car audio scene (like me)...be sure to allow yourself enough time to do it. you will undoubtedly run into some issues that will eat up more time than you think.
