I seem to be experiencing a lack of mid-range using my mtx components(TX5001). My amp is set to allow high pass frequecies but the 5 1/4 speaker mounted in the door sounds more like a smaller subwoofer. The tweeter I mounted on the A-pillar seems to scream. So it sounds like there are extreme highs and mid-lows up front. I have 4x6s in the rear with two 10 inch subs. The lows sound great and the highs sound great but I don't seem to have a mid-range.....any advice is appreciated.

Are you using the stock passive crossovers? Bi-amping? Is there an attenuator for the tweeter on the crossover? What exactly do you have the crossovers set on your amplifier to? What voltage did you set your gains to? Can you shut off the 4x6's and subs and see if the problem is the same?

The crossovers came with the component speakers. It has seperate output pins for the tweeter and woofer. There are two options on the crossover for the tweeter output pin. One is 0db and the other is -3db. I do have two amps one for the subs and one four channel for the speakers. The amp is set to hpf and the is dial on 85. The input sensitivity is set to 1. Disconnecting the 4x6s reduced the mid-range even more.

How did you set your gains?
If I were you I'd play some pure tones and figure out what frequencies you are lacking the most.

Have you tried setting your tweeter to -3 dB on the crossover? Make sure you don't have the loudness engaged on your deck.

-3db on the tweet is a good start. Raising the HPF on the midrange may help a little as well by clearing up the midrange. 85hz on a 5 1/4" driver may be a little low depending upon the install.

Do you have any EQ options? I am guessing that you are using the stock passive crossovers. I would probably do a reset of the gains as well. Are you using 4 channels to your front speakers? If that is the case turn the gain on the tweets down a bunch and go from there .. IMO minimum but I know on here people like to use the DMM route for the gains.

I figured it out. I have a Kenwood KVT-817DVD Head unit and the equalizer menu was very complicated. However I managed to adjust the frequency on the front speakers and now I have a mid-range. Thanks for the advice....I was lost there for a minute ;)
