clear coat build up around side molding

So I remove the side molding and the debadged my truck to find that the previous owner must have had body work done that required painting. After removing the side molding I noticed what appears to be a build up of clear coat around the perimeter of the removed side molding. Is there a way to smooth it out with jeapordizing the paint finish?

With care, wet sanding with 1000, 1500, then 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper will help to knock down the ridges. Follow with rubbing compound, polish, and glaze, and you should be good to go. Just be careful, especially around sharp edges/shoulders to NOT RUB THRU the CC finish.
