My 85' almost left me stranded today, I coasted home...It is cutting out, then comes back, then cuts out, you try to start it, it catches, then shuts off. So I am thinking ignition module, tried that. no good...unless me old module is bad too.Usually when a coil goes out, it goes and its done, right? So now I am thinking coil, or wiring

my dads ford coil went bad but only the primary windings went. it was hard to start and ran bad but still it worked. new coil fixed it

when it cuts out does everything cut out (dash lights etc)because my truck had a bad fusible link and it caused me to lose power, maybe one of yours could be connected badly?

check the wire that goes to your distributor, mine is a pinkish color (faded) anyway, mine left me stranded for about 2 hours last summer on about the hotest day, then it dawned on me that when I put the distributor gasket on I might not have re connected that power wire all the way, sure enough it had wiggled just a bit loose to look like it was on, but it wasn't clipped in. clipped it back in and off she went ( i felt like a real "donkey")

only the engine would cut out, everything else seemed to work.

I put a new coil on, a hotter coil, it is running pretty good. I did notice when I was testing it, that it still kinda cut out around 5000 rpm. I am wondering now if the system voltage is low, because I am having problems with the charging system too. I have to bring my alternator in and have it tested... but I will check that pink wire on the dist. and make sure its good too

Check your charging system, and also check your engine ground strap. They can corrode and break.
