Damn its lookin great bootie...as soon as gauge sends me the right 6 link ill be tearin mine apart..for your front inner fenders, how wide are they? i found some 9.5" wide ones for like 18 bucks a piece, but im not sure if they would be wide enough and i should get the 11.5" ones...also, do you think you could snap a few more pics of where you cut the frame for the bags and tie rods in the front? Thanks alot man

bootie
08-09-2007, 05:58 PM
thanks guys, we got alot of work to do in the 6 days before indy, but i have faith lol, as for the trailer fenders there 10 3/4 wide by like 32 or so long, and ill try to get a few more pics of the fornt for ya

08-11-2007, 09:44 PM
well i got some good news and bad news, the good news is i got the front end back together, the bad news is its probably not gonna make it to indy without being trailored, we ran into a bunch of problems tonight with the rear brakes not bleeding, the alram not working right which in turn doesnt allow the poppers to work for the doors, and now the truck wont shift from park unless you pull the fuse to bypass the swtch on the brake so yea im pretty excited(sarcasm if you didnt catch it)

Just a thought on the alarm. Do you have your tail lights plugged up cause sometimes little things like that will screw with an alarm system. Truck looks sweet man..Good work..

Kruznlow69
08-12-2007, 05:12 PM
dude i know what your goin thru. my alarm, poppers, window modules and crap are what kept me from goin to my first show. i made a simple mistake but after 36hrs straight i couldnt focus anymore.. trailors are cheap to rent. also if you have local races try asking those guys, they usually have connections..

bootie
08-12-2007, 09:46 PM
itll be drivin, we got some plans and help from a few people, alarm guy is comin tuesday, and were gonna haul ass on the bed and if i have to ill drive down to indy with just front brakes

BadNewsSS
08-13-2007, 02:05 PM
I wouldnt drive anything without the full braking system funtioning properly.. Its doing stuff like that, that gives customs trucks a negative unsafe reputation.

08-13-2007, 03:50 PM
you should be fine driving with just front brakes as long as you are careful and keep some extra distance in front of you. i drove with just front brakes for like 2 days and it wasnt bad at all, seemed to hardly make a big difference when ii hooked the backs up.

ikon
08-13-2007, 04:46 PM

hey man i just wanna say this was an amazing forum wit lots of good pictures. i have a fullsize step side 94 with 22s tht i am fixin to try and lay out. u did pretty much the same set up tht i had n mind. i have a few questions 4 ya... what bags are u using in the front? did the firewall absolutely have to be tubbed? where the spindals needed to lay in the front? and what bags are u using n the bak n how far are they from the old leaf hanger?

bootie
08-30-2007, 07:20 PM
well thanks, to start i have re7s all the way around, you maybe able to beat in the firewall enough with a sledge, but thats your choice, id rather tub its way nicer, but also more time, on the spindles you can use stock ones, but youll have to get control arms, you'll bind the balljoints like horribly when laid out, but its just easier to get it to lay out with the drop spdindles, i dont know off hand about the measurement but its like 4 inches roughly, you can go back a little further towards the rear end but not much because of the tire, if you have any other questions ill do what i can to answer them

thrillfactory
09-02-2007, 12:31 AM
I bagged my friends truck on 22's but he didn't want to do a big tub in the front for some reason so I did a small one just to lay his truck out. If you want to just lay your ride out, this is the way to go but if you wanna cruise low in the front you'll have to tub it. http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc190/thrillfactory/DRIVE_FIREWALL_AFTER_sized.jpg

bootie
09-02-2007, 09:32 AM
yea mine arent all that big, we did bigger for clearance, with the sledge i dont really recommend it but just find the spots hitting and go from there, as to how much beating you have to do with it, it all depends on tire size your running

thrillfactory
09-02-2007, 07:12 PM

Heater and everything has been removed...if youve seen pics of the interior all of the vents have been shaved along with the HVAC controls. It would be exremely hard to put tubs in that big and keep the heater box because it takes up about 1/2 the space behind ur dash. Especially if you plan to run 24's. Youd need bigger tubs then i even have. I really dont think it would be possible unless you found something aftermarket. Youre also gonna be lookin at some extremely low profile tires if you plan on running 24. As for the driveshaft myne doesnt do a whole lot of moving probably only an 1/4" of movement through the entire range. I also found a few more pics of my tubs. Keep in mind this is setup for 22's.

ikon
09-02-2007, 11:06 PM
Depends what size tire you plan to run. I think you might be able to get away with no tubs if you run a 255/35/20. I ran 255/40/20 last summer and my tires were damn close to the firewall and i wasnt fully laid yet.

hey bootie, thats one bad truck you got there. Is your setup in the back real soft if you were to air it up all the way and then with your hand push down? I noticed you used shocks, do the airbags have any problem extending the shocks? I don't know much about this stuff, but I have seen other setups with no shocks. And also on your door poppers, what company did you get yours from? I have had problems with previous ones in the past.

The driveshaft doesn't wanna fall out. It presses into the tail shaft pressing the seal in.

if you wanna do 24s you gotta do a pretty big tub, and i mean big, there would be no chance of keeping the factory blower box, you would have to move your brake booster. The driveshaft comes no where near falling out, but it does come really sloce to pushing the seal which i just had replaced and it hasnt started leaking yet, as for the size of the tubs i have, i still have the factory heat and the heatercore installed, all my controls are in the glovebox

thanks buddy, its soft to a point, its pretty much like a caddy at around 60 psi, i dont get much up and down action from bumps, theyre factory shocks and my airbags max out before the shocks do, as for the poppers, theyre spal, ive never had any problems with em yet and theyve been on for about a year now

What's up Bootie!? I stayed in the same place as you guys at ITB. Had a blast. Got a quick question - Did you use the factory front leaf-spring perches for your lower bars? The reason I ask is because I'm getting ready to order my link, and I'm planning on running my bags on the lower bars. Just trying to get all my measuring squared away.

we gotta finich the bed, still had to be welded all the way, and we have to build spacers for it, we alsound out that the rear bag brackets puled the frame out a little bit, so were gonna reinforce it, we thought boxing the frame would be enough but no, so were gonna build a brace from bracket to bracket and then from each bracket to the notch for more strength, and then i have to rerun a few wires and new gauge line for the passenger side and the tank from when they were broken at indy when i was dragging

I like the idea of the Blazer gas tank man. I was just looking at my truck this morning trying to figure out my next step (mines a longbed w/t with a 32 gal. tank). Seeing how my truck has throttle-body injection, I think I may have to end up doing a 1st gen blazer tank to use my factory sending unit/fuel pump. Props on that one Bootie - Way helpful.

Cool. When I was on Summit's website earlier, they had all kinds of stuff. I may hafta look into that some more. Ditching that massive bath-tub in favor of something smaller will leave all kinds of room for suspension...

Keep up the awesome work Bootie....Bootie and Ikon i have a question for you..When you moved the stuff on your drivers fender (I know you had a computer to relocate) but what did you do with the mess of brakelines? Can they all bend enough to work around the tubs that i will put in? or will i have to get rid of ABS and splice the lines into a T or something? Any info would be great..I cant stand not being completely laid out.

ikon
09-11-2007, 12:12 AM
Yea...i removed my ABS and T'd...i think bootie however may still have his ABS? not 100% sure tho. As for the computer and fuse block we relocated those under the pass. side of the dash.

Hey bootie where did you mount your water/oil seperator?

bootie
09-11-2007, 06:42 PM
i sitll have my abs but its not plugged in, lol, the omputer is mounted to the core support, and i just pushed the brake lines carefully over to clear my trailer fenders and didnt move the abs module very much. and my water trap is on the innerside of the framerail on the passneger under the bed/cab, you cant really see it in this pic but its next to the square D

they do very minimal but nothing major, now i know you did the same setup up in the rear, you need to run a support bar for the bag brackets, its gonna pull the frame, which happened to mine, so im running a brace from bracket to bracket and then one from the bracket to the notch, also did you plate the frame where the bag bracket is also? if not i highly suggest it

no the bed floor is rasied 5 inches and clears the notch also, so if it doesnt clear that we got some prolems lol

Bootie, what did you use to cut the bed apart? Sawzall?

bootie

What kinda welds hold the bed together? They arent the standard seam welds right because the heat would stress the metal.

do you have a pic of the underside of your bed? i need to raise mine a little, but after you raise it, what did you do where the crossbeams are to bolt to the frame?

yea its just spot welds on the crossmembers, but i didnt drill out the crossmembers except the the rear one, i cut the back wall, and the sides and then raised it and rewelded it, then i built spacers from the frame to the bottom of the bed, drilled out the spot welds for the rear crossmember so it still mounted like factory and then made a 5 inch filler piece, but i don not have any pics of the underside

sounds easy, i only need to raise it about 2 inches. what did you use for a filler piece?
