Where I live, get my share from gnats to strewn goo. If I don't clean it off right away, is any of it prone to etch the clear? I'm careful about how to clean it not to scratch.

I get it off right away. Some are acedic (sp?) and can harm the clearcoat. I had permanent damage fromm a red splattered bug on a white car once. Nothing, and I mean nothing, could get it off. I tried 3m adhesive remover, my eraser wheel, goo off, etc etc etc eyc etc etc . The red "guts" sort of morphed with the paint. Yes, it was factory paint.

TSS: Amazing what one little insect can do

The stuff we feed bugs these days, I tell ya.

Having a coat of paint protection (wax, sealant) is always a good way to minimize or eliminate etching. It's no guarantee.

Washing the stuff off or even using a spritz of quick detailer and a towel right after it hits is the best measure against damage.

Agree with all the above. The Car had a fresh coat of wax - Zymol. However, it occurred on a trip from MI to MA. Therefore the bug was on there for probably 24-36 hours before I got a chance to get it off. Never seen anything like it.

I know you're a Zaino freak :D But carnauba's generally protect against bird droppings and bugs, contaminates like those in general. While I don't have a ton of knowledge to share on the subject I know on my family's personal vehicles I've noticed that bugs wash off much easier with a carnauba top coat. Mud seems to stick less as well, I've got 2 coats of Pinnacle Souveran on my Jeep right now (Over P&S Ultracoat Wax) and almost nothing sticks to it

 I'm listening. Can I use something over my sealant on the front surfaces?
