Ok I am looking to start tuning myself. I have nothing at this point. I have a 95 TBI and a Laptop.
If you were just starting today and were going to buy all new hardware to start burning what would you buy?
Have been going back and fourth on getting a tune done or learning it myself and I think I'm gonna spend the $$ on equipment to burn instead of buying a tune.
My truck is mostly stock CAI/Exhaust AFPR. But I have plans for a 383 down the road which would need extensive tuning. I figured if I could learn to fine tune what I have now by the time I get the 383 off the stand I would be ready to tune it.
So what would you buy? I've seen stuff that you can re-flash and some that will take mutiple tunes and some that let you tune on the fly... not sure what would be best/easiest to get use and not accidently burn up the motor with.

I just got into tuning myself and I went the cheap way with a Moates burn1 and some flash chips along with a datalog cable for the laptop. I started with a warmed over motor and that took a little bit to get to run right. I would start out simple with your stock motor and then go with the 383. Buy then you will know the ins/outs of tuning. I think that I'm going to go with the EBL set up from DynamicEFI in the future, but the basic set up I have now was cheap and is fairly easy to use. Check out Moates site and see what you think. Its cheaper and better to do it yourself than to let someone else do it for you. Hope that this helps

Thanks, that was my thought. tune my stock truck as I make changes and by the time I am ready to swap in the 383 I should have a good idea on how to get it dialed in close enough to get it to start and run.
anyone got some old gear and ready to upgrade and want to get rid of the old stuff?
I'll check out Moates
