Was checking my recent tune settings(RPM's) for my transmission. When stopped gear selector placed in 2nd, it will start out in second gear, not first. works okay in third, 1-2 then 2-3. same for drive. Havent tried to get it to kickdown into first from second. works great shifting manually also. Not sure if its tune related or internal mechanical/electrical issues.
02 GMC 4L60E with Vette servo and Transgo HD2 shift kit.36000 miles on it. 14000 miles since shift kit and vette servo. Custom tuned by myself.

It's a feature of the 4L60E, whether it be mechanical or programmatic. It will start out in second gear when the gear selector is put in 2 to reduce the amount of torque delivered to the wheels.

worked good for me my old 96 vortec 2wd and had a shift kit and servo and when i raced i could never hook up starting in first. i started in second once i got to about 10-15mph pull it back in first and wind er on out.

Yep that's normal, for low torque conditions. It will downshift it though if you're in 2nd and hammer on it. :D
